We’re taking you behind the scenes of how we made our “TPU Training Day” short film from #GoogleIO blending AI tools — including Nano Banana, Google AI Studio and Gemini Omni — with puppetry and traditional animation to give the film its charm. It started with a question: Could we make an animated film with simple materials like cardboard and markers, and then use AI to bring it to life? We worked with director Laurie Rowan and Nexus Studios on this unique approach, keeping human craft and artistry right at the heart of our film. Here’s how we did it 👇

“AI is excellent at simplifying the task and making the complexity and the workloads easier. But that’s not the purpose of the job. AI can help people free up time so they can spend so much more on what the true punch in their job is." — Philipp Schindler in his recent live interview with Jon Kelly from Puck about AI transformation in the workplace and what it actually looks like in practice. Learn more and see the full conversation ⬇️

Last week at #GML2026, I spoke with Jon Kelly of Puck about AI transformation. We went straight into real talk about what this transformation looks like in practice: 𝗣𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗔𝗜 𝘂𝘀𝗲: It sounds counter-intitutive but I’ve found that it’s often easier to start by aggressively applying AI in your personal life first, and then transitioning that to your business life. 𝗔𝗰𝘁 𝗮𝘀 “𝗖𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗿 𝗭𝗲𝗿𝗼”: Leaders can’t credibly evangelize AI if we are not pushing the boundaries of the tech and acting as "Customer Zero" first. I often start meetings by putting the prep documents or presentations into Gemini, discuss the output with the teams and then apply our human thinking “tokens” on top. 𝗦𝗲𝗽𝗮𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝘁𝗮𝘀𝗸𝘀 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗽𝘂𝗿𝗽𝗼𝘀𝗲: AI is excellent at simplifying the task. But that’s not the purpose of the job. For example, the true purpose of a CMO goes way beyond execution – it’s about driving profitable company growth, expanding markets, and feeding into the next generation of product development. Embracing this distinction between tasks and purpose can truly lead to an expansionary moment. 𝗔𝗜’𝘀 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝗺𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁: We are seeing this play out in products across Search and YouTube, where we’re creating entirely new opportunities for businesses, users and creators to connect. Magic will also happen on the output side. Every element of the marketing value chain will be enhanced with AI, from generation to bidding to measurement. 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗺𝗮𝗸𝗲𝘀 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗽𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗻𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗰𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗹𝘆 𝗺𝗮𝗴𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹: We’ve been through big moments and have helped our customers see around corners. What we do at Google is more than ads. True innovation happens at the intersection of our partners’ deep understanding of their business and our ability to build cool, cutting-edge technology at scale. We’re working to ensure students and educators have the tools to succeed in an AI-driven future. At the Education World Forum last week we shared updates on our progress expanding access and measuring the real-world impact of AI in education today: 🌍 A new partnership with UNICEF, funded by Google.org, to support education innovation for millions in Brazil, India, Kenya and Pakistan. 📈 Two new studies showing how Gemini helps students master complex math in Sierra Leone and saves teachers up to 70% of time on administrative tasks in Italy. 🎒 We’re expanding AI literacy training for educators across India and partnering with the African Union Commission to reach universities across 55 member states. Last week I sat down with Google’s Chief Economist Fabien Curto Millet to break down some of the most common misconceptions when it comes to AI. Namely... ❌ The notion that AI will automate ‘jobs’, rather than tasks. ❌ The idea that our economic future is written in stone: The future is not a forecasting exercise — it’s a design challenge! More on that from Fabien below 👇 💡We also discussed THREE practical ways we can unlock the economic potential of AI for the EU. Have a watch for those insights. This was all set against the backdrop of #Zeitgeist — our annual partner gathering hosted in the UK with some of the brightest minds in attendance. Thank you to all those who worked on this event — and to Fabien for your time and insights.

We’re opening our second engineering center in São Paulo, Brazil. 🇧🇷 This strategic hub will be home to hundreds of engineers specializing in privacy and safety, and includes the first Google Safety Engineering Center and Accessibility Discovery Center in Latin America. The space also is a tribute to the legacy of the late Luiz André Barroso, a Google leader whose pioneering work paved the way for Brazilian engineering excellence. The building is an adaptive reuse of a historic 1940s building, and we drew inspiration from Brazil’s rich heritage in our design details — like acoustic panels featuring hand-woven textiles from Minas Gerais weavers, whose traditional craft mirrors the binary logic of modern technology.
