"Sony has always had its own way of doing things in the mobile space, refusing to follow the latest mainstream trends."

Yeah which includes up to date parts and the performance of those parts.
However they are fully happy to stay up to date with the teens if over pricing and taking away

For God's sake, stop pushing for glass backs! Brittle, heavy, slippery glass has 0 advantage over decent rubberised plastic!

Now, Sony has disappointed me a lot. At this price, and even significantly lower, one should at least expect modern SoC, bigger battery and better camera. All relatively easy updates. Selling the same device but for more money is a slap in the face of the consumers.

                Here's what I like:
6.1" screen...quite handy for everyday work
Micro sd card.... memory expansion at will
3.5 mm jack.... Oh man! Sony is killing it with this inclusion!!!
                5000 mah battery.... adequate enough

Manufacturers have forgotten that kot everyone wants to game on their mobile or keep doomscrolling.

I don't understand, what's the big deal about the manufacturer keeping some things "same" ... I've been using smartphones right from the day when they were just phone with disconnected apps but great hardware. My Samsung W8500 clicks much better photos compared to my samsung S23. My Sony Ericsson K700i too has a capable camera (albeit lesser megapixels).
Having a lot of upgrades have never really made any difference for my style of working. And I bet there's a large population out there which doesn't bare for 6.9" screen and 8000 mag battery and 200 mp camera and 100 w charging.

Our expectations are they major manufacturers just give us some simple but reliable phones.
And ofcourse, user replaceable battery, or atleast easy access to battery replacement.

I have never heard that properly encrypted removable storage can be non-compliant, but your mileage may vary.

Buying iPhones for the folks in the field?! No way.

Yeah, sadly, there's very few of us that they could be listening to. Quite astonishing that any consumer would want to not be able to simply change the battery or add/transfer affordable storage, but here we are. ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ Is it just lack of tech literacy, fanboyism, no idea, but the average consumer nowadays seems to have very little interest in their own benefit.

I also never had one fail and one microSD I have is 17 years old. Don't even know which phone it was originally used in. Slow by today's standards, of course, but works normally.

User935, 27 Aug 2026None of that makes any sense. Why would anyone use a microSD as network storage instead of ... moreI wish industry representatives would debate with you on TV. You'd absolutely destroy them with logic! And yes, I totally agree.

And this is not the first time when the industry has created a crisis for themselves.
                      1. Samsung for example, screwed themselves royally when they gave non-removable battery to Galaxy Note 7, causing a fire scandal to require replacement of millions of phones itself, instead of just the battery (which would've been far cheaper and convenient).
                      2. This memory crunch is also magnified by waste memories filling up landfills, whereas a removable memory card could've easily let base storage be fixed at 128GB, and the microSD being transferred from old phones to new phones.

But still the companies don't listen to customers, do they?

Not a single of my microSD has failed till date. Most memory cards fail when they're duplicate/ fake, and people don't verify their authenticity, and then blame manufacturers who're providing lifetime warranties since times unknown.

floydb1982, 26 Aug 2026I don't bother with SD cards anymore. There nothing but junk. Just get a phone with 1 tb ... moreNone of that makes any sense.

Why would anyone use a microSD as network storage instead of a proper NAS or anything else with HDDs, SSDs or even regular size SD? All way cheaper per GB. 128 GB was maximum capacity for microSD back in 2014. 20 TB HDDs only appeared in 2019, so how are those even connected?

How did you get to 20000 cycles within 3 days? With unrealistic constant writing at 100 MB/s you'd only get to 200 cycles. Even in (for phone usage absolutely irrelevant) stress tests, cards work for years.
                          https://www.zdnet.com/article/sandisk-high-endurance-microsd-cards-review/

                          https://www.tomshardware.com/pc-components/microsd-cards/microsd-card-testing-database-celebrates-third-anniversary-with-133-petabytes-of-data-written-across-4-6-million-cycles-hundreds-of-cards-tested-to-failure-reveal-sandisk-as-the-outlier-with-6-failures-of-the-7-tested

If it indeed died within 3 days, it was obviously in some way defective and you'd get a replacement or money returned under warranty.

Btw, "Just get a phone with 1 tb or more of internal storage." is equally nonsensical. Most phones don't even come with 1 TB internal storage and if they do, the extra charge for that costs much more than microSD (iPhone is 500 โ‚ฌ for 750 GB extra, 1 TB microSD is 150-200 โ‚ฌ), which can also be bought at a later point when the need arises or prices drop again, and transferred to a new device.

I bought the highest capacity 128 gb micro SD card money could buy and got only 20,000 write and erase cycles out of it using it as a network storage and it just died without any notice. Only had it for 3 days before the piece of crap died. Both my USB 3.0 20 tb hdd and USB 3.0 22 tb hdd are both still working just fine.
