I've been watching the popular TV series 'Shine on Me' 《骄阳似我》recently.
In the drama, the female lead falls from the second floor and is saved by the male lead. Later, she sends him a text message that says, '昨天谢谢你!'
This sentence is concise, interesting, and probably not difficult to understand, but 'Thank you yesterday！' might not be right.
What is its grammatical structure?
昨天谢谢你 means: "thank you for yesterday"
昨天 (yesterday) is the topic
谢谢你 (thank you) is the comment
[Topic] + [comment/ opinion] is a common sentence structure.
Similarly:
In "新年沒有什麼地方去" 新年 is the topic, 沒有什麼地方去 is the comment. You can't say 新年 itself has nowhere particular to go. It is the omitted subject has nowhere particular to go
昨天谢谢你 actually means 昨天的事，我要谢谢你
