PC Games piracy is back on track now in 2026 though, with Hypervisor bypass and Voices38 cracks.
The more time goes on the more the consoles make no sense to me.
First buy a console that cost like 600 euro then buy one more controller that be like 100 euro more added to the price. Then buy the games that are more expensive then on PC while also need to pay subscription as you need to have account for console and you need to hack with VPN to make the account cause a lot of countries are not supported and you can't make the account for it. So you spend like 700 for the console with extra controller and then 120 euro a year or even 200 euro a year for the subscription to play online and if you pay the game pass too then even more a year. In the long run you pay more for the console then you can build a gaming computer that last you over 10 years
Time to stop buying consoles by 2028 too!
I would be okay with being all digital if it didn’t mean that companies can also revoke my ownership/playability of these games/media without even giving a refund.
Look at what happened recently with 551 movies and TV shows on the PlayStation store, for example. We need options.
Having a digital game copy is better for me. I don't want scratched and dirty discs.
so they'll install games from an external ssd/hdd instead of selling or trading discs, on a medicated console. Physical media is dying, only for optical drives it seems.
If that's the case then piracy is not not stealing.
There goes getting used games at a reasonable price. All part of PlayStations plan to lock you in. Thankfully I'm a Nintendo person and they still are making cartridges for the most part.
Might I add while games are being purchased digitally you still own the hardware you purchase. You could take it apart or run something else on it if you really wanted to. Same as Nintendo Steam Xbox the software was made and released by them and is maintained by the devs of each respective company so yes it's theirs you're just agreeing to "borrow" or use it. That's why you don't technically own the games you purchase digitally. But people are going a bit too far and acting like you dont even own the console. Yes you do just not your games.
The news is sad in itself, but reading this at 04:16 in the morning, while listening to Imagine Dragons' album 'Evolve' from 2017 makes it much more sad for me. Things were still better in 2017. Things like this are making me withdraw from modern society.
its simple .... they dont want you to own the game
they want you to own only a subscription to use that game
so in the end .... you are forced buy your needs to repay more than one time for one thing specially if we mention the big big big sizes games that will take you forever to finish it 100%
Expect a heavy backlash.
Sony tried this with the PSP Go and despite how great the handheld was, it did so much worse than expected. Microsoft completely screwed up the Xbox One by announcing DRM and trying to kill the second hand market, until they were forced to change their mind. Now, Sony is trying to get rid of physical media altogether and history will repeat itself.
I shouldn't need to say something so obvious but everyone loses if they got rid of the physical games. It wipes out the second hand game market (for users and businesses), will keep prices sky high, will be next to impossible to preserve games in the long run, will further drive the market into a monopoly and will renew efforts/demand for piracy.
'Long story short, physical media is dying, at least for games. Sony might be the first to ring the death knell, but you can be sure the next Microsoft and Nintendo consoles aren't going to offer physical media options, either. Get ready to pay for everything, and own nothing.'
It was kind of already that way. Nintendo charges less for online games now, so while Mariokart World from the eShop was $79.99, physically it was $89.99. In addition to that, you're now just paying for a physical key to the store to download it, so you never owned the game in the first place. Not to mention that most games relied on some form of server, even some singleplayer titles that still required internet for some reason. These games either have their own server or piggyback off of the console OEM's servers, which costs money. This means that once they shut down those servers, the game is basically unplayable. This is definitely a bummer.
