It's not just a theoretical model, but a sophisticated analytical tool that allows product developers to examine their products in depth across five integrated stages. The Five Levels of a Product in the Digital Age Imagine a food delivery app. How can we break it down using this methodology? * Core Benefit: Can a product be simpler than this? This level represents the essence of the product—the fundamental value a user is seeking. For our app, it's simply "getting a hot meal." If the product fails at this, all other features are worthless. * Generic Product: This level describes the basic physical and digital components that make the core benefit possible. In the app's case, this includes "the user interface, restaurant menus, payment options, and the shopping cart." * Expected Product: Here we move to the customer's expectations. These features are built on data and user behavior analysis. * Potential Product: This level represents future innovation. It's all the improvements and features that can be added to maximize the product's appeal and ensure long-term loyalty. For the app, this might be "using AI to suggest meals that match the customer’s taste or offering ultra-fast delivery via drones." Why Should You Adopt This Methodology? Leadership begins with a different question. Not: What can I gain from my business? But: What can I contribute to it, and what can it develop in me? Just wrapped up a powerful 3-day workshop with a focus on Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) with 70+ frontline leaders at one of the world's largest mega projects, a site that will eventually host a #workforce of 70,000+. These 70 leaders are part of a 700+ strong cohort of Psychosocial #SafetyChampions who work across the site every day. Their role is simple to state but profound in impact: to recognize the early signs and signals of distress among the workforce, and to act as connectors between the crew and the support structures built to help them. At the heart of this system is a Workers Welfare Centre that runs 24x7, staffed by professional psychologists and psychiatrists who can speak multiple languages. It addresses everything from individual distress and camp-related concerns to mental health issues that need urgent attention. This workshop was live, scenario-based, deeply participatory, and full of real conversation. The champions left equipped with practical tools and techniques for having meaningful conversations with crew members and for connecting them to the right support when it matters most. MHPSS is critical everywhere, but especially in mega-projects and construction, where thousands of people from many cultures come together in highly complex, high-pressure environments. The top 5 takeaways for our MHPSS frontline leaders: 1. You don't need to be a clinician, you need to notice, listen, and connect. The most powerful tool is human attention. 2.
