General Atomics Rolls Out Sidekick Drone for MQ-9B Missions General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc. (GA-ASI) has introduced a new drone designed to back up MQ-9B operations, handling high-risk tasks like scouting, jamming, and precision strikes. Named after the Hawaiian goddess of fire and volcanoes, “PELE” is meant to operate ahead of the MQ-9B, helping it navigate contested zones with less risk. Measuring just 9 feet (2.74 meters) long with an 11-foot (3.35-meter) wingspan, the drone runs on a 16-horsepower engine and weighs 250 pounds (113 kilograms) at takeoff. It can fly for up to 7 hours and cover 500 nautical miles (575 miles or 926 kilometers), allowing it to support long-range missions.

The world’s first fully autonomous humanoid football match took place in Beijing, and let’s say, we’re still in the preseason of humanoid robotics. Equipped with advanced sensors and no human intervention, these robots navigated, passed, and even attempted strategic defense. But not without hiccups: two had to be stretchered off after collapsing mid-game, while others struggled with balance, ball control, and slow-motion collisions. It’s a fascinating (and entertaining) look at where humanoids are headed—and how far they still have to go before we see them reliably operating in the real world. Sports are becoming a proving ground for robotic coordination and safe human-robot interaction. But if we want humanoids in our homes, hospitals, or workplaces, we need to build trust and resilience. To sustain lunar missions and open the rest of the solar system, refueling spacecraft in space will be critical. Working with cryogenic propellants such as liquid hydrogen and liquid oxygen can be challenging. Blue Origin teamed with NASA - National Aeronautics and Space Administration's Marshall Space Flight Center at their TS300 thermal vacuum chamber to demonstrate the transfer of these propellants. The Blue Origin Utility Transfer Mechanism (UTM) builds on our decades-long experience with liquid hydrogen and oxygen on New Shepard and New Glenn's second stage. We tested multiple transfers and mate/demate operations, with the UTMs outperforming all performance requirements. These UTMs enable our Transporter to dock with the Blue Moon MK2 Lander and conduct in-space cryogenic propellant transfer operations.

General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc. partnered with AeroVironment to launch a Switchblade 600 loitering munition from a Block 5 MQ-9A unmanned aircraft system. The flight testing took place from July 22–24 at the U.S. Army Yuma Proving Grounds Test Range. It marked the first time a Switchblade 600 had ever been launched from an unmanned aircraft.
