George Miller, MA, PCC posted this𝗢𝗻𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗜’𝘃𝗲 𝗻𝗼𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗲𝗱 𝗿𝗲𝗽𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗱𝗹𝘆 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗵𝗶𝗴𝗵-𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗳𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹𝘀: The stronger they become externally, the easier it becomes to disappear internally. - They become: • more composed • more strategic • more capable under pressure But also: • harder to read • harder to reach • less spontaneous • more managed - And eventually, people stop bringing them the real conversation. Not because trust is broken. But because something no longer feels fully available. - This is rarely intentional. It’s usually adaptive. Especially for leaders carrying: • pressure • visibility • responsibility • constant decision-making - The work isn’t becoming less professional. It’s learning how to stay present without hiding inside competence. - That’s a big part of the work I do with leaders and teams. Usually, we start by looking at: communication patterns behavioral tendencies under pressure where someone becomes over-managed or overly adaptive - Most people don’t lose trust through conflict. They lose it through subtle emotional disappearance.

They just know: • they feel frustrated with coworkers or leadership • conversations feel tense or emotionally loaded • trust starts decreasing • they keep feeling misunderstood, overlooked, or irritated • the same patterns repeat across different relationships Meanwhile, the way they communicate may actually be helping create the very dynamic they feel trapped inside. In this Career Lab, we’ll explore: • How competence can become emotional armor • Why some professionals become efficient but emotionally unreachable • The hidden communication patterns that quietly shape workplace relationships • How irritation, withdrawal, and over-control affect trust and influence • The difference between sounding professional and being genuinely connected This isn’t about becoming less competent. George Miller, MA, PCC shared thisAt JMT Consulting's 𝗜𝗻𝗻𝗼𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗲 2026, I had the honor of being in the room with Amberley Snyder — and got pulled into a moment on stage as part of one of her exercises. Three of us reached into a bag, not knowing what we’d get. I ended up with a Snickers — partly by default, because Susan Hunter, before me has a nut allergy. And honestly… it was one of the sweetest Snickers bars I’ve ever had. A simple moment, but it said a lot. What stood out wasn’t just resilience. It was her relationship with challenge. Of course there’s performance. Of course there’s pride, drive, something to prove. And still — she said one of the biggest “mountains” she’s climbing is learning to truly be proud of herself. That landed. Because you see it everywhere with high performers: Hesitation to own the win. Moving the bar instead of receiving it. Discomfort being fully seen. Not a capability issue. A relationship with fear. Many know her story from 𝙒𝙖𝙡𝙠. 𝙍𝙞𝙙𝙚. 𝙍𝙤𝙙𝙚𝙤.. What you feel in person is the presence behind it — not the absence of fear, but a willingness to be with it. That’s the work. Not removing fear. Not getting over it. Learning how to stand with it — and still tell the truth about who you are. It often feels overwhelming. But embodiment isn’t about pretending everything is fine. It’s about increasing your capacity to stay present. I think about it like stepping into cold water— your body spikes. If you fight it, the intensity increases. If you numb out, you disconnect. But if you slow the breath, relax the jaw, and widen your attention… something shifts. The same discomfort becomes workable. That’s the work. Their success wasn’t landing the role. It was walking away from it. They paid attention to what didn’t feel right— and didn’t ignore it just to keep moving forward. That level of awareness is rare. What a powerful reflection — and huge congratulations to you Christina, Rosa, and everyone involved. The intentionality, courage, authenticity, and heart behind this event comes through.
We absolutely need more women’s leadership in our world — leadership that is collaborative, emotionally intelligent, community-centered, and rooted in your own personal experience. There’s a reason even Benjamin Franklin and other founding fathers studied the governance structures of the Iroquois Confederacy, where women played essential leadership and advisory roles within the culture. There is deep wisdom in leadership that values relationship, community, and long-term stewardship.
Really beautiful to see you stepping into bold, visible, authentic leadership in this way. Huge accomplishment.

This year’s theme, The Power Within: Igniting Bold, Confident Leadership, was a powerful reminder that leadership growth requires intention, courage, and a willingness to continue evolving. What made the experience even more meaningful was seeing members of our team prioritize their own leadership growth and development. In local government, where the work is fast-paced and deeply people-centered, investing in ourselves as leaders matters. I left feeling inspired by the conversations, shared experiences, and the collective commitment to leading with confidence and purpose. I was also especially proud to see Unidos NorCal board member Sophia Rome, MPA step into true leadership by presenting a powerful session on overcoming fear and sharing her personal story. Her vulnerability, honesty, and courage resonated deeply and served as a reminder that some of the most impactful leadership comes from being willing to show up authentically. As a first-generation Latina in public service, spaces like this carry even greater meaning. George Miller, MA, PCC reacted on thisGeorge Miller, MA, PCC reacted on thisTaking a brief pause from dissertation writing while attending the International Coaching Federation conference in Paris has felt both clarifying and energizing. As a Doctorate in Education candidate in Transformational Leadership and Coaching, my dissertation research explores authenticity under pressure, asking how individuals navigate fragmentation across personal, professional, cultural, and institutional identities while moving toward greater congruence and integration over time. Through autoethnography, coaching, embodied practice, and reflective inquiry, I’m studying what it means to remain connected to oneself while adapting to complex systems and changing roles. Being surrounded by coaches, organizational leaders, researchers, and practitioners from around the world has only deepened my belief in the importance of this work. I’ve learned so much over the past few days through conversations around leadership, listening, resilience, relational dynamics, and human development. The conference reminded me that coaching is not simply about productivity or performance. At its best, it creates space for people to hear themselves more clearly, reconnect to purpose, and imagine new possibilities for how they live and lead. Leaving Paris feeling even more committed to the coaching, organizational leadership, and research work ahead and excited to continue moving this dissertation toward completion. 🇫🇷📚 See me sandwiched between two of my favorite new connections.
