It took me 2 years to realize: True donor engagement isn't about soliciting; it's about serving. To bring out the best in your donors, you must give your best: Want the best giving outcomes? ↳ Give them the best impact opportunities and involvement. Want meaningful relationships? ↳ Provide meaningful stewardship. Want better donor retention? ↳ Give them better recognition and reporting. Want your donors to grow? ↳ Provide them with learning about your mission and mentorship opportunities. Want more major gifts and new commitments? ↳ Celebrate their philanthropy with gratitude and storytelling. A fundraiser is not the one who closes the biggest gifts. A fundraiser is the one who treats every donor as transformational.

Collaborative funds are one of the most powerful philanthropic models we have to tackle global challenges, and The Bridgespan Group continues to produce critical research on their impact. Their new donor survey highlights both the promise of and barriers to collaborative funding. While the sample size was relatively small, the findings are compelling: -Donors value collaboratives because they allow them to do more than they can alone, often at the scale of complex problems. They value meeting, learning and taking risks with other donors. Over 80% reported that the collaboratives they fund meet or exceed their overall expectations. -Donors still rely on peer recommendations to find collaboratives. As I've shared in the past, an effort to create more structured matching mechanisms would ultimately broaden access and insight for a wider range of donors, as well as lightening the burden on fund leaders. -Donors cited a diverse range of concerns that keep them from giving more to collaboratives, from low familiarity and difficulty finding/evaluating funds to worries about strategic fit or loss of decision-making authority. At The Freedom Fund, we see how collaboratives can unlock resources and drive outsized impact. The task now is to build trust, visibility and evidence of impact so more donors can overcome perceived barriers and embrace this model. Read the full report: https://lnkd.in/eB5GG8GE
