I salute this SONY decision. There are markets that are not feasible anymore. Samsung and Chinese brands dominate Europe, 2nd Apple.
Sony should focus on the loyal and fans, selling through online channels only is a great decision and should save money to our Japanese friends.

mawlki, 14 Jul 2025Europe isn't Honda worthy. Europe is one of the richest market in the world if not the richest. Also has 500 million people. To say that this market is not for you, is like saying that you don't want sells.

That's what happens when old f..ts are ruling the companies. It's good to some extent, but terrible in the tech industry.

Sony has a smartphone business in Europe? Don't you need to actually sell phones for there to be a business?

Samsung has the software features on lockdown
Xiaomi/Redmi/Poco has the price/hardware on lockdown

What does Sony offer? Their phones' prices (for the hardware you're getting) and software are not bad by themselves, they are just not on-par with what others are offering. It's the same thing that happened with the PSP/PSVita - they just need to learn that the market dictates what you have to offer, a company's only job is to figure out how to offer it.

Hope they don't endup like LG, we have too few OEMs on the market as it is.

"...focusing on online shopping channels instead."

No surprise since almost everything can be bought online. Never mind Sony, even the number of Samsung and Xiaomi smartphone dealers around my area has shrunken down and most of them are now doing sales and business through online platform, especially on Shopee and TikTok.

What smartphone business? They don't have it in Europe and pretty sure is the same worldwid.
They only needed 2 phones based on same chipset, screen dimension.
Top model gets top bined chips, 16gb ram, 1tb storage, 4k display.
The other model gets lower binned chips, 12gb ram, 512gb storage, 1080p+ display.
Battery same on both over 6000mah

Well sony has been like a zombie for decade now its not even surprising anymore if out of the blue someday they announced they will step down from mobile business, looks like its better for them to just sell consoles in fact it would be interesting if we get a sequel to the Xperia Play, a PSP design android based console with decent spec and considerate price

It was about time. What did Sony expect? That an sd card slot, a headphone jack, an (for the display size) useless 4k screen and a crappy continuous telephoto will generate millions of sales?

That nobody cares. If everything that you guys like about Sony was so important, especially 2014 bezels, it would have meant that Sony would sell like cupcakes yet in Europe they barely, barely sell some units. Wonder why. It is a freaky world we live in indeed.

Zack1, 14 Jul 2025Sony UI is junk and design specially body to screen ratio no body wants bezel in phone.sony di... moreFunny that marketing nowadays is so strong that the phone manufacturers have convinced people it's worse to have a 2 mm bezel than a huge hole in the middle of the screen that renders far more than that practically unusable. And a couple of years ago we measured bezels in cm.

I must admit I never notice the bezel when switching from my company phone to my Xperia, also took me a second to understand what bezel you're talking about here. The other way around, that huge black patch always makes me wonder who in god's name would buy something that comes with a faulty display out of the factory.

                                    Freaky world we live in.
