jiyen235, 29 May 2025their already mid phones are gonna have QC issues now. It's hardly surprising that they'd "outsource" their flagships, because Sony devices are made by Longcheer and Wingtech under license from FIH (Foxconn), hence why Sony devices list "Longcheer" in the ODM section in the build properties file, as well as listing Android app packages names under the "com.evenwell" prefix. There should be an obvious reason why they use the pill camera island, a distinct design element used in Nokia devices since 2002 (Nokia 6610i) and the camera shutter key used in Sony Ericssons made under Arima and Compal.

Apart from that, their mid-range devices and former low ends were hardly ever sold in thousands past the XA series. Their flagships are what's embraced by enthusiasts, regardless of the sales numbers.

If they're "outsourcing", that means they're terminating their contract with Foxconn and relying on different ODMs for their R&D, as with Asus, Huawei/Honor (as they have no relation to their networking division), ZTE, TCL (regardless of the brand), Sharp, FCNT (now owned by Lenovo), Hisense (under Coosea group), Philips (under Sang Fei), Lava (under Shenzhen InOne), Nokia/HMD, Microsoft (formerly under Agold), TP-Link Neffos (formerly made by Wingtech under BBK, now defunct) and Kyocera under Agold.

I dont mind this at all as long as we still get all the high end features and functions of expected of an Xperia Device. Sony will get value out of it no doubt

To think of it, the only reasons why most people choose Sony is multimedia quality & implementation (camera app, HDMI and all) and the presence of microSD slot and 3.5mm jack.
If suppose a good quality assembler (for say, Samsung) makes these phones, then why not?

I'm sure they'll choose reliable suppliers and it's about time they go mass market and that's why choosing 1080p displays even though in that aspect ratio.

Sorry to say, but Sony have missed the mark so much they are no longer relevant in the mobile space. Why they're wasting money on still releasing Xperia phones is beyond me.

Mobilemaster, 29 May 2025I wonder why this decision? They produced their phones in their factory in Thailand, I wonder ... morebecause they don't have enough budget for such investment, apparently.

Hopefully a new display that won't give Asians extremely yellow skin in Tokyo Drift! New speakers that is actually louder instead of just a vibrating phone! New noise cancelation mic for calls and not just video recording!

It just a pure business decisions to cutting cost.

There a few bad lemon in the bag that pass the qc process. Even if Sony assembled their phones before it not like the quality is over the top & retail prices are still high.

Well just like the Apple or Samsung. Selling questionable quality devices for price much higher than chinese brands. Nothing new.
