Very disappointing, a large part of the draw to Sony Xperia was the appeal of it still being manufactured in Japan, they've just lost a big USP for the products. And to those thinking it'll mean cheaper priced products, it won't, not for the consumer at least.

What do they have that no one else... moreno ugly screen holes, best in class front stereo speakers ( no one else has front facing stereo ) natural rendition on cameras, excellent battery life and 3.5mm port with expandable storage for a niche crowd that is as good as gold unfortunately it's price is questionable.

They offer their own solutions copied by others (like Apple). They make more than solid phones for a very long time (owned a few of them). Are they expensive? Yes! Are there equally or more expensive phones? Yes! You are blessed because you can CHOOSE between them. So, don't buy Sony if you don't like it. Go for Samsung or Apple. No one cares.

You're right in expecting price reduction, and I also hope for improvement in 1 more key area:- distribution & availability in more countries.
I've heard some good things about Sony's audio output, but LG flagships with their ESS Quad DAC are widely known for the best audio output in a common phone, and although I have a LG G8x & it's better than anything I tested, I have no Sony flagship to compare it against, as Sony is not available in my country.
Sony needs to get their game together now! I hope this move helps them rule the world, with reaosnable price and wide market availability.
And for this, even if we get a copycat of the S26 Ultra (with microSD, 3.5mm slot and HDMI setup and all) from Sony, then why not? I'd love it.

Maybe with this the price will finally be reasonable. Asking for S25 Ultra prices without really offering any advantage is pretty bold. And no, the headphone jack\ DAC is not enough. It's nice to have, but unless they use a really good DAC which they probably do not as they don't advertise one, the output just isn't that great anyways.

even if I prefer Panasonic/Technics I will continue with Sony Xperia which is the only Japanese mobile brand in Europe. I have to buy it in France because in Switzerland it does not release this one. for a high price it could even have been Made in Japan. for the rest it remains a Sony anyway. I hope that the in-eqr r WF-1000XM6 headphones will be released this summer or autumn
