We grew a medical client's organic traffic by 3773% in under 12 months…without any backlink outreach or content flood. How? A user-first SEO strategy that Google actually rewards. Here's the exact 3-step system that took us from 1,040 to 40,284 monthly sessions: 1️⃣ Content that matches search intent Most content gets published to fill a calendar. Ours was designed to rank. Use Ahrefs to quickly identify what searchers really want: - Enter your keyword into Keywords Explorer. - Scroll to the SERP section. - Click "Identify intents." Alternatively, use ChatGPT’s web search function to analyze top-ranking competitors: Prompt: “Analyze the search intent of this page: [URL]. Focus on: - Content format & depth - Heading structure - Rich media usage (images, videos, tables)” Then, analyze your own content the same way. Spot the gaps and fix them: - Adjust content type to match intent (e.g., convert blogs into comprehensive guides) - Enrich your content with images, videos, or infographics - Structure your headings clearly to boost readability and SEO 2️⃣ CTAs on roids We increased monthly conversions by 113% using these simple yet effective tactics: - Short, action-driven CTAs (e.g., “Download Your Free PDF”) - Create urgency (e.g., "Claim Now," "Limited Offer") - Prioritize one primary CTA per page—place it above the fold and after important content - Use color contrast tools (e.g., Coolors.co contrast checker) to ensure CTAs stand out 3️⃣ Publish authority-building white papers White papers naturally earn backlinks. Our client's white paper secured links from Wikipedia and Yahoo (without outreach). Craft compelling white papers by: - Identifying hot topics and industry challenges - Including original research (interviews, surveys, case studies) - Using authoritative secondary research (academic journals, industry reports) - Clearly structuring content (Executive Summary → Problem → Solutions → Conclusion → CTA) - Designing a dedicated landing page (clear, persuasive, and optimized for keywords) - Promoting extensively via blogs, newsletters, social media, and press releases The results? Organic traffic surged from 1,040 → 40,284 monthly sessions (+3,773%) Keywords ranking in the top 10 grew to 693 Monthly conversions increased from 158 → 337 (+113%)

11 Proven Ways to Build High Quality Backlinks (to rank on Google & ChatGPT): 1. Guest Post on Authority Sites → Not just blogs...go for newsletters and industry publications → Think: niche newsletters, Substack guest editions, local biz sites 2. HARO + Featured Mentions → Still works, but now also try: Terkel, Qwoted, Help a B2B Writer → Faster and often more responsive than HARO 3. Partner Collaboration Pages → Add a “Partners” page and ask vendors, clients, and tools to do the same → You link to them, they link to you 4. Resource Pages & “Best Tools” Lists → Search: intitle:resources + [your industry] → Pitch your brand/tool/blog as an addition 5. Launch a Public SOP Library → Create step-by-step SOPs in your niche → People love linking to process docs + free templates → Bonus: Update monthly, turn it into a backlink magnet 6. Create an Industry Data Report → Run a survey, publish the data, design a PDF → Add original charts + insights → Outreach to bloggers who cover your space 7. Build a Free Tool (Even a Simple One) → ROI calculator, audit checklist, SEO grader, etc. → Tools get 10x more backlinks than blogs...if they’re useful 8. Interview Your Customers or Influencers → Turn interviews into long-form blog posts → The person you feature will often link back to it → Works great for consultants, coaches, service businesses 9. Turn Your Blog into a Book (Then Launch It) → Turn 5-10 pillar posts into an ebook → Publish on Gumroad or Amazon → Promote with a “Free Resources” campaign...backlinks follow 10. Sponsor a Niche Newsletter or Creator → Pick ones with solid SEO sites (Substack, Ghost, Medium) → Your brand gets a mention + backlink in the archive 11. Create an “Ultimate Linkable Asset” → Think: “100+ stats for [industry]”, “Complete guide to [X]”, “Tool comparisons” → Make it better than anything on Page 1 → Promote it once a month on social + through outreach --- Link building should start before outreach. If it’s not worth linking to, no one will. Most SEOs avoid doing hard work → that’s your edge. Give people value + reasons to reference you. Create once, promote monthly, stack links over time. --- Whatcha think? Agree or disagree? Repost ♻️ and let's start a discussion around backlinks. P.S. I'm Connor Gillivan. 150,000 traffic/month without buying a single backlink The secret? Quality content that EARNS links naturally. Here's our exact blueprint: 🧵👇 1/ The mindset shift that changed everything: Stop thinking "how can I get links?" Start thinking "how can I create something people can't help but link to?" This one change took us from begging for backlinks to earning 50+ links per month organically. 2/ Our "Linkable Asset" Strategy: Instead of generic blog posts, we created EPIC resources: ✅ 14K word ultimate guides ✅ Original research & case studie ✅ Free tools & calculators ✅ Industry-first data analysis ✅ Contrarian takes with proof People link to value, not fluff. 3/ Created just 1 comprehensive psychology guide with interactive assessment tools and shareable personality insights. That generated: 20,000+ visitors in week 1 • 50+ high-quality backlinks • 300 paid users • Zero outreach effort 4/ Our content promotion playbook (no link building required): 🎯 Reddit (r/psychology, r/mbti, r/personalitytests) 🎯 Psychology forums and communities 🎯 Social media psychology groups 🎯 Academic research citations 🎯 Mental health awareness platforms Let quality speak for itself. 5/ The "Research-First" approach: Before writing, we spent 40 hours researching: • What competitors missed • Reddit/Quora questions • Industry pain points • First-hand case studies • Original data analysis This depth made our content irreplaceable. 6/ Why traditional link building fails: ❌ Generic outreach emails (2% response rate) ❌ Asking for favors from strangers ❌ Creating content FOR links, not FOR users ❌ Focusing on quantity over quality People can smell desperation from miles away. 7/ The psychological trigger that generates links: RECIPROCITY. When you mention someone in your content (with genuine value), they naturally want to share it. We mentioned 20+ industry experts in our guide. 15 of them shared it organically. 8/ Our "10x Content" checklist: Before publishing, we ask: □ Is this 10x better than anything else? □ Does it solve a real problem? □ Would I bookmark this myself? □ Does it contain unique insights? □ Is it genuinely helpful, not just optimized? 9/ The compound effect of quality: Each epic piece of content: • Attracts 5-10 natural links • Generates social shares • Builds brand authority • Increases search rankings • Attracts more opportunities Quality compounds. Spam doesn't. 10/ The brutal truth about backlinks: 1 link from a genuine reader who found value = 100 paid directory links Google's algorithm rewards authentic endorsements, not artificial ones. Focus on earning respect, not gaming rankings. 11/ Our results after 2 years of this strategy: 📈 1M+ monthly organic visitors 📈 500+ high-authority backlinks 📈 0 paid link building 📈 340% ROI on content investment Quality content is the ultimate growth hack. I spent $40,000 on backlinks last year. Got 12 links. Rankings barely moved. Then I checked Ahrefs. 7 of those 12 links were on pages with zero traffic. Google was treating them as worthless. I had basically lit my budget on fire. So I rebuilt my entire link building system from scratch. Here is the 7-step framework I now use to earn quality links without burning cash: Step 1. Stop Buying Domain Authority. Start Buying Traffic. DA is a vanity score made by Moz. Google does not use it. What Google does use? PageRank-NearestSeeds. Pages with zero clicks pass zero PageRank value. So a link from a "DA 70" site with no readers is worthless. New rule: every prospect must have real organic traffic in Ahrefs or Semrush. No traffic, no deal. Step 2. Kill The Cold Email Templates Only 8.5% of cold outreach emails generate a link. Mine were doing worse. I trashed every "Hi [First Name], loved your post" template. Replaced with 3-line emails referencing one specific thing the author had written that week. Reply rate went from 1.4% to 19%. Step 3. Replace Outreach With Digital PR The math is brutal: 100 cold emails = 1 to 2 links if lucky. 1 strong data study = 15 to 40 links from journalists who actually want it. I started publishing one original report per quarter. Surveys, internal data, contrarian takes. Then I pitched it to 30 journalists in the niche. The links came to me, not the other way around. Step 4. Build Anchor Text Like A Normal Human Anchor text diversity below 30% gets you a 15-position drop. Confirmed. I capped exact-match anchors at 8% of the total profile. The rest is branded, generic, and naked URLs. Boring? Yes. Safe? Also yes. Step 5. Hunt Broken Links Before You Build New Ones Easiest links on earth. I run Ahrefs Site Explorer on competitor domains, filter for 404s with 5+ referring domains, then email the referring sites suggesting my page as a replacement. Conversion rate: roughly 1 in 8. Free links. No begging. Step 6. Use HARO And Source Platforms Daily Journalists are starving for expert quotes. I check Help A Reporter Out, Quoted, and Featured every morning. Three sharp paragraphs and a credential line. Cost per link: zero dollars. Time per link: 12 minutes. Step 7. Audit And Disavow The Junk Behind You Ahrefs ran a controlled experiment. Disavowing toxic backlinks caused a 13.3% traffic drop. Reinstating them recovered 99% of it. 18 months later, my client portfolio earns 60+ editorial links per month, mostly through digital PR and HARO. Average cost per link dropped from $1,170 to $187. Same budget. 6x the output. Zero penalty risk. If you are still buying $50 guest posts on dead blogs, you are not building authority. You are building debt. Save this. Share it with the person handing your money to the wrong vendor.
