Women across Pennsylvania are being invited to help shape the future through the State of the Woman Report survey led by the PA Governor’s Advisory Commission on Women. This statewide effort seeks to better understand the experiences, challenges, and opportunities facing women across the Commonwealth, with a strong focus on ensuring diverse voices are represented, including young women, women of color, and women in rural communities. At Mission Kids, we know the importance of listening to lived experiences and using those voices to help inform meaningful change. Great discussion at the recent Professional Women in Construction Chicago Chapter Candid Convo focused on building and sustaining a more diverse workforce across the AEC industry. At HorizonWorks LLC, we believe diversity is strengthened through intentional outreach, mentorship, and creating pathways for professionals from all backgrounds to grow within construction and infrastructure. Gen X Comming of Age Movie The return of The Devil Wears Prada 2 isn’t just nostalgia, t’s a reminder of how far women in the workplace have come, and how far there is still to go. Gen X women built careers in systems that weren’t designed for them, the system is still not built with us in mind. I know because I am one one them! We delivered results, broke ceilings, and carried the weight, often without recognition or acknowledgement (its a nice to have but, its still nice when you get it). Today, as companies and governments push equity, diversity and inclusion agendas in some parts of the world, that contribution cannot be sidelined. Equity is not a slogan. It’s pay, power, and presence at the table. (Equity and Equality are not the same thing) The next chapter of leadership must do two things: 1. Recognise the women who paved the way and 2. ensure they’re still in the room shaping what comes next. If you benefited from the table, built by Gen X women, make sure they’re still sitting at the same table WITH you. That's all.

The U.S. joins Sudan, Somalia, and Tonga as one of the handful of countries on earth that have not ratified the UN Convention on Ending All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW). The U.S. has also failed to ratify the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC) and the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD). The U.S. amounts to a mere 5% of the human population, and with Luddite policy failures like these, the economic and diplomatic power of the U.S. in the international community will continue to shrink.

Ada Lovelace is a prime example of how women are consistently written out of history, overlooked when credit is due, and moved to the background when the impact of their contributions are remarkable. Almost every facet of programming theory lays at the feet of Ada Lovelace and her writing the first-ever algorithm for Charles Babbage's machine. (It's part of why I call my ChatGPT 'Ada') I write about Ada and even more badass women who get the short-end of the history books in my blog series: Badass Women In History There are so many role models to look up to, but honestly none will ever be as impactful as the role models we KNOW. And that is the inspiration behind the new program makeHERspace at Distillery Labs, where we are connecting 40 girls in middle & high school here in Greater Peoria with mentors in our community over the next six months AND giving these girls hands-on experience through 15+ workshops that will let them see over 80 career pathways in STEAM+Entrepreneurship first hand! 🚨 The United States was reportedly the ONLY country to vote NO at the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) in 2026 regarding a major global women’s rights agreement. 🚨 This was not some random internet poll. This was the UNITED NATIONS. The agreement focused on: 👉 protecting women and girls from violence 👉 equal access to justice 👉 removing discriminatory laws 👉 protecting basic human rights for women worldwide Vote outcome: 🌍 37 countries voted YES ⚪ 6 abstained ❌ The United States voted NO According to reports, objections centered around language involving: • reproductive rights • gender equality language • DEI concepts • protections connected to gender identity For many people around the world, this was shocking because the U.S. has historically presented itself as a global leader on human rights and democracy. Even more alarming: This reportedly marked one of the first times in decades that this UN women’s rights commission failed to reach normal consensus because the U.S. stood alone in opposition. Regardless of political party, Americans should understand what this means internationally: 🌎 The world watches what we support. 🌎 The world watches what we reject. 🌎 Votes like this shape America’s global reputation. Many Americans have NO IDEA this even happened.
