About us
UN Women is the United Nations agency for women's rights, gender equality and women's empowerment. A global champion ForAllWomenAndGirls, UN Women was established to accelerate progress on meeting their needs worldwide. UN Women supports UN Member States as they set global standards for achieving gender equality, and works with governments and civil society to design laws, policies, programmes and services needed to implement these standards. It stands behind women’s equal participation in all aspects of life, focusing on five priority areas: increasing women’s leadership and participation; ending violence against women; engaging women in all aspects of peace and security processes; enhancing women’s economic empowerment; and making gender equality central to national development planning and budgeting. UN Women also coordinates and promotes the UN system’s work in advancing gender equality.

As technology evolves, so must justice. Digital spaces are not separate from real life, they actually shape it. And too often, they are places where abuse goes unchecked. #Moldova’s new law is a step toward closing that gap. See how this bold step is changing what justice looks like #ForAllWomenAndGirls in the digital age: https://lnkd.in/ePsn6Gh8

For millions of women and girls, getting a period still means facing stigma, missing school, or going without basic necessities. 🩸 That is not inevitable. It is inequality. This #MenstrualHygieneDay, we must ensure menstrual health and dignity #ForAllWomenAndGIrls, everywhere.

This #WorldFootballDay, we're celebrating what happens when girls have the ball ⚽ Girls who play sport stay in school longer, build confidence, and develop the skills to lead. 80% of female Fortune 500 CEOs played sport growing up. The potential is clear. But by age 14, girls drop out of sport at twice the rate of boys — and that's a loss for all of us. We're committed to equal play #ForAllWomenAndGirls — on and off the field. 🔗 See the latest data from UN Women: https://lnkd.in/eWktkR85 #GlobalGoals

GIRLS are challenging stereotypes every day in school, sports, innovation, careers, and more. 💙 May we always remember that they are capable—and build a world that gives them equal opportunities. 💙 #ForAllWomenAndGirls

Silence protects systems that were never built equally. Breaking that silence is how change begins. From courtrooms to communities, women and girls are still fighting for justice, safety, and equal rights under the law — and the systems meant to protect them are failing. 🔗 See why justice #ForAllWomenAndGirls matters now more than ever: https://lnkd.in/eScrpaGt #NoExcuse

Ebola transmission follows social realities. In Liberia in 2014, women accounted for up to three quarters of #Ebola deaths in some communities, and 50 years ago in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) women accounted for 56% of those who died. The virus spreads along the lines of caregiving, domestic labor, front-line health work, and burial practices. Because when people are sick, women look after them. We fear the current outbreak will follow the same pattern and call for increased financial support to primary health care programs that meet the needs of women and girls. UN Women is on the ground in Ebola-affected countries, working alongside governments, the United Nations system, and women’s organizations to support their work. War does not affect everyone equally. Women and girls are more likely to ⚫ be displaced ⚫ face sexual violence ⚫ lose access to healthcare — all while trying to keep their families alive as essential services collapse around them. Conflict worsens gender inequality. Across the Middle East, women and girls are disproportionately impacted by displacement, rising food insecurity and deepening economic hardship. UN Women is on the ground across the Middle East, as well as in affected countries in the Caucasus, Africa and Asia, working to reach women and girls with essential services, address the specific impacts of this conflict on gender equality, and safeguard fragile gains. The rights, protection and leadership of women and girls must be placed at the center of any peace and recovery efforts. 🔗 Learn more: https://lnkd.in/eU2wvCSU #ForAllWomenAndGirls
