Kevin Bishop, MS Adult Learning-Leadership shared thisLast week, I got to attend our LinkedIn Finance Summit in San Jose. The evening event was festival themed. As I got in line for this slide, the attendant asked, “How many riders?” I responded, “Just me.” He looked a little surprised, but I climbed to the top and slid down on my own. Not everything has to be a competition. We don’t have to constantly compare ourselves with others. Once in a while, we can just do the thing because we enjoy doing the thing. So here I am sliding into the coming week thinking about how I’m going to #FindTheFun this week. 😁

Kevin Bishop, MS Adult Learning-Leadership shared thisLast night, I had the opportunity to go out to dinner with my team, two of whom are new to LinkedIn as of 2026. We’re also a distributed bunch, with me in Chicago, Tabitha in South Bay, Lindsay in SF, and Jason in Atlanta. But everything aligned for us all to connect in San Jose for one evening, and I’ve gotta say, they’re the BEST. Stellar humans, each of them. We spent more time sharing stories and laughing than eating. I left that dinner feeling really grateful I get to work with them. We’re gonna have a lot of fun together dreaming big and getting sh*t done!

Kevin Bishop, MS Adult Learning-Leadership shared thisThis past Saturday marked 17 years since my mom passed away after a battle with ovarian cancer. I spent the day doing things that made her happy. Shopping and baking brownies from her grandmother’s recipe. 🙂 A few years ago, I was a guest on my friend Dana Black’s podcast I Swear on My Mother’s Grave and discussed how much I miss her, how much I learned - and continue to learn - from her, and how we navigated some complicated dynamics after I came out to her. If you’re a parent of an LGBTQ+ child, a member of the community, or just someone struggling with grief, I hope this is a help to you. https://lnkd.in/g-Rg3wzg

Kevin Bishop, MS Adult Learning-Leadership shared thisTwenty-two years ago these two kids started dating. It’s hard to summarize the journeys we’ve been on individually and together since then. When we started out, we were both still working in theatre. He was also serving sass waiting tables at the legendary Ed Debevic’s and slinging extra shots as a barista. I had a full-time day job at Deloitte helping consultants put together proposals and slide decks. Twenty-two years later, he’s an award-winning, highly sought-after event producer with a client list you wouldn’t believe, and I’ve carved out my own niche as a well-respected Learning and Talent Development leader across several organizations, most recently at LinkedIn. We’re in completely different places than where we started, but both of us are thriving. I don’t think either of us could have predicted being where we are now in our lives and careers. But what I knew almost immediately was that this was the person I wanted to go on the adventure with. This was the person who would encourage me to follow my heart and my passion—wherever it was going to lead. And I’ve tried to do the same for him. When people ask about my career journey, I tell them it’s not just about doing great work; it’s about surrounding yourself with people who will lift you up, encourage you to be bold and take risks, and support you through all the ups and downs. I’m fortunate to have quite a few of those people in my life. And I’m especially fortunate to have spent the last 22 years sharing life with one in particular. 🙂 Looking forward to the next 22 and wherever they take us!

Kevin Bishop, MS Adult Learning-Leadership shared thisGratitude reflection: Since October, I’ve been in the process of hiring two Talent Development Partner roles for my team. One person started a couple of weeks ago and the other will start a few weeks from now. I’ve gotten to meet and talk with so many great people over the past few months and I learned something from each conversation — not just about the candidate, but also about myself and the field in which we work. Yes, the interviewing / hiring process can be exhausting (for those on both sides of the table), but I feel privileged, as a hiring manager, to have so many folks generously sharing their experience and a little bit of themselves with me. And while I couldn’t bring on every one of them, I am truly grateful for what each of them shared with me and taught me throughout the process.

Kevin Bishop, MS Adult Learning-Leadership shared this“Culture isn’t a set of beliefs. It’s a set of choices.” Lisa Bodell’s latest FastCo article is all about culture. I loved talking with her and sharing my perspective. Culture is ever-evolving and leaders must be intentional in how they shape it through their actions. It’s not static. It’s being built each and every day. If it’s left untended, it can become a liability. How it grows depends on how much care it is given.Kevin Bishop, MS Adult Learning-Leadership shared thisAnyone else been hearing the latest news about SO MANY leaders that were saying one thing but doing something else entirely? 🤬 Culture isn’t a set of beliefs. It’s a set of choices. Every day, your team watches what you do and learns from it. That’s what defines your culture. When leaders don't live their values -- that's a problem. See my latest article in FastCo. about Culture: It's not what you say, it's what you do. Are you a value-led leader where you walk the walk? Do you actions exemplify your culture and mission statement? Read on for more. Thanks to Kevin Bishop, MS Adult Learning-Leadership and Dan Pontefract for contributing. https://lnkd.in/eJd_3NNf

Kevin Bishop, MS Adult Learning-Leadership shared thisWe're fortunate that, at LinkedIn, we have Company Connect every two weeks. It's our company all hands where we come together to build community, track progress against our priorities, deep dive on specific bodies of work, and get some of our questions answered. It's a really special and unique aspect of LinkedIn's culture. Yesterday, at Company Connect, I had the honor of sharing an update on Mission AI, our company-wide initiative to build confidence with AI through hands-on learning and experimentation. At a high-level, Mission AI encourages employees to chart their own individual courses to AI fluency by participating in events and learning activities that interest them most. AND they earn badges for their efforts. This is not a top-down directive; it's a grass-roots movement. Following the update, I started receiving messages from employees about how much they're enjoying this journey. Some shared how Mission AI has inspired them to apply AI to their work in new ways. Some shared how they've made Mission AI a bit of a competition within their orgs and are competing for numbers of badges earned. And almost all shared how they're having FUN learning about and experimenting with AI. This is the outcome we were hoping for. We want to shift mindsets around AI, reduce the fear and anxiety some may be feeling, and get people excited to "get their hands dirty" and play with AI. As part of our update, Amy Dawson, CCWP demonstrated an AI agent she built to help her team move faster while navigating complex content. She talked about her learning journey with AI, and I think she said it best, "You don't have to be an expert to make a real impact; you just have to get started." Side note: I clearly talk with my hands. 🤣

Kevin Bishop, MS Adult Learning-Leadership shared thisFriday afternoon musings… Do you want to blend in or stand out? Ideally, you’ll do both. You want to highlight your unique skills, abilities, talents, and attributes. But you also have to show how you can integrate them into the broader context to benefit your team/function/organization. Today’s musings are inspired by my having inadvertently worn phone booth camouflage for all of my meetings yesterday. 😂

Some teams are stepping into CEO-level priorities, becoming champions of enterprise-wide reinvention. Others are losing their seat at the table, stuck delivering check-the-box training while employees need more support than ever. Last year, I interviewed 22 L&D leaders from Walmart, McKinsey, Siemens, LinkedIn, and other Fortune 500 enterprises to figure out what distinguishes the successful teams. Here, I'm sharing a compilation of my favorite insights from every episode. - The neuroscience of how people actually learn - How to turn L&D into a revenue-generating function - Building skills foundations for AI transformation - ... and many more Watch the compilation here: https://lnkd.in/epGuHcMi 🔎 Know an L&D executive who’d be open to recording an episode together? Getting here took Ryan Roslansky and I nearly two years of debating the ideas, researching the insights, and interviewing the experts. Members like Ume Habiba, JONETTA GRESHAM,Paul Cheek, Anne-Marie Slaughter, Neil Pretty, Taj English, Vivienne Ming, Joséphine Goube, Ethan Evans, Byron Auguste, Kate Kallot, Maria Flynn, Vivek Seshadri, Maria Anguiano, Nilofer Merchant, Nickle LaMoreaux, Tess Gilman Posner, Diego Rubio, Diego Arambula, John Henry, Leena Nair, Scott Galloway, Barbara Corcoran and more. Kevin Bishop, MS Adult Learning-Leadership reacted on thisDeeply grateful. 🙏 Last week I had the privilege of co-leading a 2-day workshop on Confidence for an amazing group of young women leaders at University of Notre Dame with executive coach and my dear friend Barb Heenan, PCC, CPC, ELI-MP. 3 takeaways: 1️⃣ This next generation of leaders is supportive, caring, insightful, brave, and shows up in alignment with their values. 😍 Especially in the face of discomfort and uncertainty. Inspiring AF. 2️⃣ Prepare well as a facilitator... then let it go. ❄️ The real magic always happens in the room during discussion, when everyone's synapses are firing and discoveries are being made in real time. ✨ (i.e., adjust and stay flexible. Your agenda isn't the final boss.) 3️⃣ Want to shift your energy... and even your consciousness? Move your body!! Some of the physical exercises we did (including improv games and dancing up a storm) unlocked the vibes and led to powerful new ideas for participants. 💃 Huge thanks to sponsor Tom Gallagher and all the participants who showed up with authenticity and bravery. You rocked it. 🎉👏 Thank you thank you. If you're interested in discovering what powerful magic can be unlocked in just a few short hours of a workshop, hit me up. DMs are open or email me at: Aaron@AaronGrahamCoaching.com. Let's goooo, AG 💙🚀

And LinkedIn is a great place to experiment right now. Case in point: You can test and learn what conversations resonate by adding comments to interesting posts. In this screenshot example, I thought I was stating the obvious by highlighting the importance of a writer's journey. But my comment got 38 likes and 15,673 impressions. Keep testing, keep learning. You might know something deeply true that others need to hear right now. By the way, Nicholas Thompson, CEO at The Atlantic, consistently shares fascinating research and ideas. Highly recommend giving him a follow.

Kevin Bishop, MS Adult Learning-Leadership reacted on thisKevin Bishop, MS Adult Learning-Leadership reacted on thisFor the seven years I have been coaching, teaching, and mentoring I have held a single hypothesis: Performance blocks aren't really about "lack of technique or talent." It really is 90% finding your blocks—overcoming them—and 10% technique. The microphone only amplifies whatever fear, self-doubt, insecurities or egoic issues a performer is already living with—usually trapped in their head self-consciously and unable to use their voice the way they want to. If you have worked with me, you know that PD is my jam. This year, I made it official 💍! Taking nearly a decade of intuitive experience, honing it with even more tools to help liberate the creative spirit, and explore performance potentials. As the saying goes, "Wherever you go, there you are!" This is the kind of work that helped shift not only my *career*, but my entire *life.* I can't wait to see whose life it changes next!

Kevin Bishop, MS Adult Learning-Leadership reacted on thisKevin Bishop, MS Adult Learning-Leadership reacted on thisIt's transgender day of visibility today! While I'm not trans, I've had the privilege of working alongside and learning from some of the best professionals who happened to be transgender. I certainly have my own learning curve when it comes to supporting trans people and understanding their experiences. Making that even more tricky is so much misinformation and misunderstanding about trans people right now. When we allow this to circulate unchallenged, it harms our neighbors, colleagues, and friends who are trans. I want to offer to anyone in my network who's confused and trying to learn more that I am happy to connect and share what I'm discovering on my own learning journey. I'm not an expert by any means, AND I think a simple thing those of us outside the trans community can do today is patiently sit with those close to us to create more understanding.

Kevin Bishop, MS Adult Learning-Leadership liked thisKevin Bishop, MS Adult Learning-Leadership liked thisThere’s a powerful idea in Open to Work, Ryan and Aneesh’s new book, that career paths are going from ladders → climbing walls. It’s a powerful analogy that captures how progress in your career is rarely a straight upward trajectory (ladder) and instead, often non-linear, self-directed and requires constant recalibration (climbing wall). This is true in comms – we have to embrace adaptability, entrepreneurial thinking, and a willingness to keep learning. Case in point: I just learned how to launch a book, which was not on my BINGO card and definitely is not on the traditional tech comms career ladder. And AI is an accelerant, changing how work gets done, skills stay relevant and each of us build careers that last. Crack open the book, start reading and share what resonates with you. AI is going to make L&D and OD look very different. It’s now effortless to create learning pathways, surface the right content for competencies, and build new resources. With the right prompts, you can learn almost anything—and the need for heavy vetting is shrinking fast. So what becomes of us in L&D and OD? We’re not “dead in the water.” But the work is changing. I believe the future of L&D lies in creating connections: - Bringing people together around shared learning. - Building communities of practice for those who want to advance a skill. - Facilitating conversations, not just delivering content. Why? Because today’s workplace is increasingly starved of social outlets. I see a growing clock in, work, clock out culture. And that’s a problem. Research shows that the more connections people have at work—especially close ones—the more satisfied and engaged they are, and the more likely they are to stay. That’s where L&D can step in. AI can take the heavy lift of content creation and curation off our plates, freeing us to design spaces for community and growth. - New manager? Join a peer group to talk through scenarios. - Learning a skill? Participate in a practice community with facilitated discussions. Meanwhile, OD will be transformed by AI’s ability to analyze people data and generate more accurate predictions. This can accelerate internal mobility, inform talent reviews, and even suggest successors based on richer, more objective insights. So will we still need L&D and OD teams? Absolutely. But at a higher level— - Facilitating live learning to keep communities engaged. - Building structures to make sense of talent data. - Coaching leaders (human-to-human). - Helping employees understand how to grow. The best use of AI isn’t to make things “quicker” or “easier.” It’s to reimagine how people teams operate and how we support the business. Let’s not just automate the old way of doing things. Let’s turn the model on its head. Photo: Unrelated, but our last weekend in NY before heading back to SF. Shoutout to all the parents working that fall back-to-school schedule. If you can puzzle piece a fall schedule together, you can basically do anything. Deep breaths---you got this 💪

They want their answer, when they need it. That’s where AI comes in.
