Jeff McKibben shared thisThe end of #globalization? “The focus on semiconductor sovereignty could reshape global trade, reducing reliance on international supply chains and fostering more localized production in this critical sector.”Jeff McKibben shared thisCHINA SET TO DOMINATE GLOBAL TECH: UNVEILING THE SHOCKING SURGE IN SEMICONDUCTOR POWER! In today's economically turbulent times, the semiconductor industry stands as a pillar of strength. Leading manufacturers are reorienting their strategies to future-proof their businesses, with ASML at the forefront, supplying advanced lithography equipment to giants like TSMC, Intel, and Samsung. This marks a significant investment in cutting-edge chip manufacturing facilities. China, under Xi Jinping, is pushing for semiconductor independence amid geopolitical tensions with the U.S. This initiative goes beyond heavy investments in technology, extending to the construction of advanced chip factories, positioning China as a potential leader in this sector. Historically, China has demonstrated remarkable efficiency in various technological domains, which bolsters its capabilities in the semiconductor arena. SEMI, the International Association of Chip Industry Companies, forecasts a 6.4% increase in global semiconductor production for 2024, attributing this surge to the growing demand for AI and tech advancements. This will enable a record production of 20 million wafers per month. Central to this expansion is China, planning to launch 18 new plants in 2023, enhancing its production capacity by 12% in just one year. SEMI's report indicates the commencement of 82 new semiconductor plants in China between 2022 and 2024, signifying a major shift in global semiconductor dynamics and emphasizing China's pursuit of technological autonomy. This trend not only highlights China's strategic position in the semiconductor race but also reflects a broader shift towards national self-reliance in technology. The focus on semiconductor sovereignty could reshape global trade, reducing reliance on international supply chains and fostering more localized production in this critical sector. Thanks again to Medium for the article. Are you looking to buy or sell used semiconductor equipment? Jeff McKibben shared thisSome firms are recognizing that cost reduction tech investments can be treated as “non-GAAP” restructuring charges on the income statement. This enables digital transformation even in times of tighter Opex constraints (as long as cash flow can support it!)Jeff McKibben shared thisMany technology executives find themselves between a rock and a hard place. CEOs and CFOs are leaning on CIOs and technology leaders to find ways to reduce costs in a tight economy. On the other hand, technology executives are being counted upon to utilize hot technologies that can spark new business innovation and to support digital business models. This panel of executives at the 2023 Washington, D.C. CIO Executive Leadership Summit shared use cases for advanced technologies and partnerships that can lower costs and drive new business value. #winningstrategies #techawards #itleadership #networking #ai #ml #cio #chatgpt #thoughtascent #careerascent #ciso #hmgciodc #innovation

Jeff McKibben reacted on thisJeff McKibben reacted on thisThe stories we dismiss as “individual experiences” are often telling us something much bigger about the system. A maternity leave that was never really leave. A promotion that disappeared after years of contribution. An idea that gained credibility only after someone else repeated it. These moments may happen to one woman at a time. But when the same experiences keep happening across companies, industries, and generations, they are no longer anecdotes. They are patterns. And patterns are leadership data. That is why I created my monthly Go With Grit™ series, The Only Woman in the Room: Stories That Change Systems. Each month, I share an anonymous story from a woman whose experience reveals something larger about how workplaces actually operate: the policies, assumptions, power dynamics, and leadership behaviors that shape careers. The purpose is not to call out individual companies. It is to make visible what organizations too often normalize. Because women don’t need to become more resilient to systems that repeatedly make success harder. Leaders need to build better systems. If we want workplaces where women can do more than succeed, where they can actually thrive, we have to pay attention to the patterns hiding inside individual stories. Read the latest issue of Go With Grit™ at the link below. https://lnkd.in/gcVgkbkv What workplace pattern do you think leaders still aren’t paying enough attention to?

Jeff McKibben reacted on thisJeff McKibben reacted on thisIn June, I will officially retire from financial services. Given that I started at NM Rothschild in 1987, some of you may feel this is overdue. Nearly four decades later — via Jardine Fleming in Hong Kong, Jakarta, Manila and New York; Merrill Lynch in Dubai; Standard Chartered in Abu Dhabi; a long chapter at Coutts; and most recently Weatherbys Private Bank — it is a profession that has taken me to the four corners of the globe and brought me back home a much wiser and humbler person for it. My final years at Weatherbys have given me huge confidence for the future of our industry. The young team there — their intelligence, their client focus, their sheer quality — has been one of the genuine pleasures of my career. I leave the profession in better hands than I found it. My wife and I now have plans of our own: seed investments that excite us, and causes we want to give our time to properly. Thank you to everyone who has been part of the story and, if you do find me playing the piano in your local bistro, do say hello and don't forget to tip 🤩
