Dr. Tameka Ellington shared thisLet me say this clearly. What’s happening right now is not abstract. As DEI efforts are reduced, women are losing real opportunities. Real income. Real stability. And for so many, this isn’t just a career shift. It is sleepless nights, uncertainty, and the quiet pressure of trying to figure out what comes next. It is showing up for your family while navigating your own disappointment. It is rewriting plans you worked so hard to build. I know because I lived it. I saw a 60% decline in my business in just a few months. And while I am grateful I had other talents to pivot into, I hold deep empathy for the women who did not have that option. Those who are still searching, still rebuilding, still trying to find their footing. Please know this. Your worth is not defined by what was taken from you. This moment does not erase your brilliance, your experience, or your value. That is why these conversations matter. Through platforms and other spaces, we continue to shine a light on these realities, not to dwell in struggle, but to demand awareness and change. I am still here. Still building. Still rising. Sharlene is the kind of person who doesn’t just inspire you with her success — she lifts you, supports you, and believes in you even when you’re still figuring things out. Every time I get in front of a room of people to speak, it’s like an out of body experience. God just takes over! He steps in and carries my voice through the entire speech. I always separate myself and get quiet 20 mins or so before I speak. I use this time to connect with my Creator and to ask Him to take over and give me the words that the people need to hear. With the US rollback of DEI, universities and colleges that would normally be booking me to speak on book tour no longer have the budget to bring me. So, I chose to expand my reach internationally to continue to teach about the racial struggle of beauty. The dialogue we shared around wellness wasn’t surface-level… it was real, necessary, and deeply impactful.
