Artist Entrepreneurship Program Helps Cleveland Artists Build Sustainable Businesses

University of Leicester has appointed Creative62 co-founder Mark Robinson as an entrepreneur in residence, strengthening the connection between ambitious students and the realities of modern brand-building.

As a NENY coalition partner, IncubatorWorks' Co.Starters program has grown to accommodate five cohorts a year, previously administering two annually. More than 20 cohorts have graduated from Co.Starters now, with access to in-house cash flow models, dedicated training and pitching practice, as well as fully fledged business model canvases. In 2025 alone, after graduating five more cohorts, Co.Starters has served 54 entrepreneurs and 29 new businesses, with 19 more ideas currently in development. That's exactly what happens during our annual Entrepreneurship Quest. Before a single product is made or a price tag is set, we ask deep questions: ~ What do you love doing? ~ What are you naturally good at? ~ What makes you excited to get out of bed in the morning? These questions help learners reflect on their unique gifts, passions, and community, because we believe that real entrepreneurship starts with self-awareness and introspection. From there, we ask: ~ What problems do you see in the world? ~ How can your interests help someone else? Suddenly, business becomes more than just selling. It becomes a way to serve, to create with meaning and to connect identity with impact. At the annual Children's Business Fair, young people bring these ideas to life. They are able to pitch to potential customers, answer questions in person, and manage their earnings. These real-life skills can only be built through experiences, not books. Last night’s Art of Enterprise session was a powerful reminder that business isn’t just strategy and spreadsheets — it’s creativity, reflection, and the courage to keep shaping and reshaping our ideas. Working with clay became a metaphor for entrepreneurship. As the room buzzed with conversation, delegates explored: • How emotions show up in the creative process • Which stages felt challenging and why • What surprised them about their own approach • What their clay piece revealed about them as creators, thinkers and business owners Every colour was chosen with intention, representing identity, values, and the essence of their businesses. Every adjustment, refinement, and re‑shaping mirrored the real work we do daily as entrepreneurs: test, reflect, adapt, improve. By the end of the session, each person walked away with: • A clearer sense of their strengths • Insight into an area they want to develop • A renewed appreciation for the messy, beautiful process of building something meaningful The video captures the energy perfectly - focused hands, thoughtful pauses, and the kind of conversation that sparks real growth.
