David Fabie reposted thisDavid Fabie reposted thisIt doesn’t happen all at once. There’s no announcement, no warning, no moment where life taps you on the shoulder and tells you: “Look closely… things are changing.” It happens quietly. You’re busy — working, raising kids, paying bills, rushing through days that feel too short. And then one afternoon, you go home to visit your parents… and something soft inside you shifts. You notice the small things first: Your father gets up from the couch a little slower. Your mother asks you to repeat something she once would’ve heard clearly. The house feels the same — but the people inside are aging gently, silently. You notice they hold the railing when they go downstairs. They double-check the locks before bed. They sit more than they stand. They nap more. They walk a little closer together. You realize things you never thought about before: Who changes the lightbulbs now? Who carries the heavy groceries? Who helps them understand the new phone they’re afraid to break? And suddenly, the roles you’ve always known start shifting. The hands that raised you now tremble when pouring tea. The voices that soothed you now need reassurance themselves. The people who once felt invincible now feel beautifully, heartbreakingly human. You begin to understand something deeper: Growing older isn’t just happening to them — it’s happening to you, too. And love starts to look different. It becomes: • driving them to appointments • fixing things they didn’t want to ask help for • listening to stories you’ve already heard • staying a little longer instead of rushing out • calling even when you’re tired • appreciating all the little sacrifices you once overlooked Because now you finally see it: Your parents aren’t just aging. They’re winding down a chapter they spent decades writing — a chapter filled with you. And the quiet truth is this: They won’t say it out loud, but they’re hoping you’ll walk through their door a little more often. Not to fix anything. Not to bring anything. Just to be there. To sit. To talk. To laugh. To listen. To remind them that they’re still needed… still valued… still loved. One day, you’ll realize these are the visits that matter most. Because time moves fast. But moments with aging parents? Those are the memories that stay soft forever. Love them while you still have them.

3moDavid Fabie reposted this#LeadersReflections This is your #culture warning sign. Don’t let it become your reality. Losing top talent? Morale slipping? The problem often starts at the top. But the fix is in your hands—every single day. Here are my 5 non-negotiable leadership actions to protect your culture and your people: 1. Lead with Consistency. Flex your style, but never your principles. Ask yourself: Am I playing favourites, or am I fairly leading everyone to the same high standard? 2. Anchor in Integrity. Your team notices every gap between your words and your actions. Align them. Always. 3. Own Your Responsibility. You chose to lead. So lead—especially when it’s difficult. Your people depend on you showing up. 4. Embrace Accountability. When someone challenges you, get curious, not defensive. This isn’t a threat—it’s a gift of trust. 5. Uphold Professionalism. Your reaction sets the emotional temperature. Don’t let a moment of frustration undermine your leadership. This isn’t rocket science. It’s leadership. Build these in, and build a culture where your best people stay—and thrive. My LinkedIn reach is pants, so if you do have eyes on this and you think it's helpful, please share to help others. Thanks, Wendy 🫠 www.leadingconfidently.com -

David Fabie shared thisKaiser Permanente was founded on the simple idea that everyone deserves the chance to live a healthy life. During #Pride month we celebrate and support our LGBTQ+ community. As a multi-cultural, multi-racial organization, Pride is special to all of us. Kaiser Permanente is proud to partner with the Human Rights Campaign Foundation, which has recognized our hospitals with the LGBTQ+ Healthcare Equality Leader designation for 12 consecutive years and honored Kaiser Permanente as a Best Place to Work for LGBTQ+ equality for the last 16 years. The last few years, we’ve proudly celebrated the achievements of the LGBTQ+ community, but now we’re seeing the gains being challenged by the current political environment and cultural backlash – along with the civil rights of many groups. At Kaiser Permanente, we see our differences as our strengths, and we’re defined by our common humanity. Our mission, historical commitment to equity, and our values as an organization compel us to publicly advocate for equity and inclusion for all – in health care and beyond. Our work and dedication must and will continue as we stand against the rollback of the accomplishments and rights of so many. To create equity and inclusion, we must and need to address all barriers that are unjust, unequal, and preventable. At Kaiser Permanente, we know firsthand the role equity plays in enabling full, abundant, and healthy lives. We’re striving to eliminate racism, disparities, and health inequities of any kind in our organization and across the communities we serve. Now more than ever, we need to march for Pride as we stand for justice and inclusion of all people.

David Fabie shared thisOakland, Calif., Jan. 17, 2023 – A partnership between Kaiser Permanente and Lady Gaga’s Born This Way Foundation aims to connect young people with accessible, inclusive, and equitable mental health resources to improve their mental health and wellness. Kaiser Permanente is providing a $350,000 grant to Born This Way Foundation’s Kindness in Community Fund, which is dedicated to supporting community organizations focused on youth mental health and wellness, informed and/or led by youth, and rooted in practices of inclusion, access, and equity. With this additional support from Kaiser Permanente, Born This Way Foundation will be able to increase the number of organizations in California that will receive funding this year. The Kaiser Permanente grant will also support the Be There Certificate — a free, self-paced, interactive online mental health course for young people (and anyone) that teaches them how to kindly and safely provide mental health support to their peers — created by Jack.org in partnership with Born This Way Foundation. As of March 2022, more than 30,000 Californians have accessed the Be There Certificate course, and the Kaiser Permanente grant will help to increase outreach to more people in targeted communities. “Kaiser Permanente is committed to removing the barriers that prevent young people from receiving the support and care they need to address their mental health and wellness,” said Yvette Radford, vice president, External and Community Affairs, Kaiser Permanente Northern California. “Through partnerships with organizations like Born This Way Foundation, we are helping to increase access to mental health services in our communities, while also creating a culture of acceptance and support for young people living with mental health conditions.” Kaiser Permanente grant supports 2 Born This Way Foundation programs Last year, Born This Way Foundation’s Kindness in Community Fund provided grants ranging between $25,000 and $50,000 to 22 nonprofit organizations in the United States focused on youth mental health and wellness. Four of those organizations were based in California. “We are proud to partner with Kaiser Permanente in their commitment to ending the stigma that surrounds mental health, building a culture of acceptance, and helping individuals understand how to build resilience,” said Maya Enista Smith, executive director of Born This Way Foundation. “This investment bolsters our efforts to build a kinder and braver world, so we can continue providing accessible, inclusive, and equitable mental health resources for young people.” Through Kaiser Permanente’s support of the Be There Certificate — the free, online course designed to increase mental health literacy — participants will gain knowledge, skills, and confidence in having mental health conversations. They will also be better prepared to start long-lasting mental health conversations and support relationships in their communities.

David Fabie liked thisDavid Fabie liked thisI’m honored to step into a new role as interim regional president for Kaiser Permanente in Colorado. I joined Kaiser Permanente 23 years ago as a traveling nurse. I chose to build my career here because I truly believe our model offers the best care, and I love how we put our members first. Thanks to Mike Ramseier and Jeffrey Krawcek, MD, MBOE for all you’ve done to help Kaiser Permanente Colorado. I’m excited to build on your work, alongside our CPMG partners, including my friend and colleague, Greg Berman MD, MBA who was recently ratified as president and executive medical director. Thank you to everyone who’s reached out already. I’m looking forward to spending time on the front lines connecting with our great physicians and staff as we continue our important work!

David Fabie liked thisDavid Fabie liked thisAs physicians, we know the care we provide often goes beyond our facilities. That’s why I was proud to join our regional leaders, community partners, and elected officials for the launch of Kaiser Permanente’s new Healthy Minds, Healthy Bodies, and Thriving Futures initiative last week at the Kaiser Permanente Sports Medicine Center in Inglewood. Together with Brotherhood Crusade, and other community partners, this new youth initiative will expand programs that support mental wellbeing, physical health, and career pathways for young people ages 10 to 24 across South Los Angeles. Improving #communityhealth takes partnerships like these that galvanize our collective experience and shared connections to help the next generation grow up healthy, active, and confident. It was an honor to spend time with my friend and colleague Michelle Gaskill-Hames, Brotherhood Crusade president and CEO Charisse Bremond-Weaver, Inglewood Mayor James Butts, and Congresswoman Maxine Waters, alongside many others. All of us share a deep commitment to the communities we serve, and I know that the energy and passion behind this new initiative will make a real and lasting impact.

David Fabie liked thisDavid Fabie liked thisCongratulations to our Downey Kaiser Permanente Medical Center team for achieving Magnet® re‑designation! The ANCC - American Nurses Credentialing Center has once again awarded our Kaiser Permanente Downey Medical Center with the prestigious Magnet recognition—the highest national honor for nursing excellence. Downey first earned Magnet status in 2021 for its exemplary nursing practice, exceptional patient experience, and clinical outcomes that exceeded national benchmarks—even while navigating the challenges of a global pandemic. Their dedication to excellence never wavered. With this accomplishment, Downey joins two other Kaiser Permanente medical centers that have achieved Magnet re‑designation: Irvine in 2017 and 2021, and Anaheim in 2018 and 2023—as well as a total of 13 Magnet-recognized Kaiser Permanente facilities. I couldn’t be more proud of the entire Downey team. This achievement reflects extraordinary leadership, deep engagement, and an unwavering commitment to delivering the very best care. And I want to give a special shout‑out to Barbara Murphy RN, MSN,CNML,CENP, our Chief Nurse Executive, whose leadership, focus, and passion for excellence have been instrumental in guiding the team to this incredible milestone. Her influence is woven into every part of this success. While Magnet designation highlights excellence in nursing, it is only possible through a unified effort across nurses, physicians, and staff. What a remarkable way to celebrate Kaiser Permanente’s commitment to extraordinary nursing care—and to show the world the true power of nursing excellence. #KPnurses #KPnursing #YouBelongHere Dr. Jerry E. We’re thrilled to continue our partnership as the official team physicians for the Thorns. Two of our sports medicine physicians — Dr. Jackie Brady and Dr. Eric Schub — had the honor of bringing out the game ball, and members of our Kaiser Permanente Northwest Cancer Center team helped set the tone by presenting the Thorns banner during center circle ceremony. An incredible way to kick off the season. Let’s go, Thorns! 🌹⚽

David Fabie liked thisDavid Fabie liked thisEarlier today, Scouts from Wiesbaden Troop 107 gathered at the historic Ludendorff Bridge site in Remagen, Germany, to commemorate the 81st anniversary of the events surrounding the capture of the bridge in 1945. During the ceremony at the Friendship Bridge Museum (FRIEDENSMUSEUM Brücke von Remagen), Scouts from the United States and Germany dedicated new U.S. and German national flags, symbolizing the enduring partnership between the two nations. Twelve Scouts and seven adult leaders from Troop 107 were joined by Scouts from Troop 56 in Bonn and members of the German Pfadfinder group Stamm Albert Schweitzer. Together they honored shared history while strengthening international Scouting friendships. The flags, funded with support from Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 27, replace those that had weathered years along the Rhine. With over 75 attendees, including guest speaker Helen Patton, granddaughter of General George S. Patton, the ceremony highlighted how a site once defined by wartime conflict now stands as a powerful symbol of cooperation and peace. Following the dedication, Scouts from both countries gathered for fellowship, food, and songs, already planning future hikes and campouts together. The new flags will serve as a lasting reminder of friendship, service, and the shared values of Scouting that connect youth across borders. 🌎🤝⚜️ We thank Thom Raymann, Scoutmaster of Troop 107, for sharing this story and photos from this meaningful event. #TACScouting #InternationalScouting Scouting America International BSA

David Fabie liked thisDavid Fabie liked thisLast week, I had the privilege of presenting at the Portland Business Journal's Women of Influence Awards. As a former honoree, this celebration holds special meaning for me, and I’m grateful that Kaiser Permanente Northwest was once again a proud sponsor. I was especially honored to celebrate my friend and colleague Mary Giswold MD, FACS, recognized as one of the PBJ’s 2026 Women of Influence. Mary and I served together as co-COOs for Kaiser Permanente’s Health Plan and Medical Group. Our partnership was grounded in trust, collaboration, and a shared commitment to improving care for our members. She has led transformational change, strengthened systems, aligned teams, and delivered results that make a meaningful difference for patients, caregivers, and communities. I was also thrilled to see other women I admire at the event, including Lisa Bhathal Merage and Karina, LeBlanc, C.M. of RAJ Sports. I deeply value the partnership we’ve built through our new collaboration with the Portland Thorns FC and Portland Fire as their official medical provider. Their commitment to community health and empowerment is truly inspiring. Congratulations to all this year’s honorees. Your leadership continues to move our region forward in meaningful ways.

Many organizations talk about investing in their teams, but without a shared understanding of what that means, expectations can easily become misaligned. An Employee Value Proposition (EVP) defines what growth, development, and advancement look like within your organization and how you’ll support those opportunities. When done well, it lays the foundation for equitable, transparent, and strategic talent development. Our latest blog, written by Monique Mehta, Graham Murphy, and Kunza Shakil, explores how a clear EVP can strengthen engagement, belonging, and mission alignment across your organization.
