“Instead of talking about doing a startup, you just go out and do it.” 🐮🚀 MOFarm, a student startup born in SCET’s Regenerative Ventures course, made University of California, Berkeley history as the first team to place in the ACC InVenture Prize Competition, earning second place and a $10,000 prize. The team is building a model that pays dairy farmers to capture and sell methane emissions, turning a major climate challenge into economic opportunity. Their momentum reflects the power of interdisciplinary collaboration, hands-on learning, and the entrepreneurial ecosystem at Berkeley. From Collider Cup to Berkeley SkyDeck and Big Ideas, MOFarm’s journey shows what can happen when student innovators build bold solutions with real-world impact. Thanks to everyone who supported us, Notre Dame for hosting and cows for farting! Go Bears!
Major congrats to UC Berkeley team MOFarm ("turning [cow] farts into fuel") for going to Notre Dame last Friday, pitching against 13 other amazing ACC teams, and bringing home the silver! Great work, team: Ethan Foong, Tom Blake, Zac Gibson, and Ibrahim Noon. You made us look great on national TV. Watch the event here (the good stuff is at 42:29 and 1:20:00): https://lnkd.in/gsvYSFHm Also *surprise* they highlighted Ashmita Kumar from Code Blue, our ACC entry from last year, in the "Where are they now" segment (see 1:14:16: https://lnkd.in/gbmfbTD4) As usual, Ashmita was amazing, doing Berkeley proud. #YouSeeBerkeley #entrepreneurship UC Berkeley Innovation & Entrepreneurship Thanks to our team behind the team, including Jennifer Nice, Keith McAleer, Oliver O'Reilly, Laura Hassner, Aileen Zerrudo, Will Kane, Sibyl Chen, Caroline Winnett, Dawn McGee, Karenna Rehorn, Phillip Denny, Britt Miller, Ryan Cobb, (and others, sure I've missed a bunch)

We all have a reason for building what we build. For me, it starts with my dad. He ran a dairy farm that eventually shut down. That was my first real exposure to how complex these challenges are. In 2022, I put together an AgTech portfolio of machines used on our farm (link in profile). One of many naive attempts to work on problems I didn’t fully understand yet. At Berkeley, I focused on finance and sustainability. At KPMG, working in carbon markets, I realized that emissions have real value. Then I met Tom, Ethan, and Zac in a UC Berkeley Sutardja Center for Entrepreneurship and Technology (SCET) class by Rana Kanaan. It just clicked. Our backgrounds, our technical depth, and a shared belief that we could build something meaningful to take on these challenges. That’s how MOFarm started. Now we’re representing University of California, Berkeley at the ACC InVenture Prize this week at University of Notre Dame. A very important step towards making this dream a reality. We’d really appreciate your support in the People’s Choice vote here using the One Click Text to Vote: https://lnkd.in/g3RRJhpe Excited to learn, pitch, and connect especially with the esteemed judges: Sri Divakaruni, M. Cole Jones and Adrienne Watson Grateful for the journey so far. Inspiration can come when you least expect it. Turning cow methane into a revenue stream — one that could shift an entire industry — wasn’t a straight path. At UC Berkeley SCET, our team came together with a shared goal: build something that helps people and the environment. Then came the catalyst: Metal–Organic Frameworks — a breakthrough technology allowing for commercial capture of dilute emissions. We had a solution. We needed the right problem. That’s when we started talking to dairy farmers. Razor thin margins. Massive methane emissions. And a realization: This isn’t just waste — it’s untapped value. And that's how MOFarm was born We took the idea to the Berkeley Collider Cup: People’s Choice. Grand Prize. Entry to SkyDeck. Now we’re bringing that momentum to Indiana for the ACC InVenture Prize, pitching live in front of esteemed judges Adrienne Watson, Sri Divakaruni, and M. Cole Jones. If you believe farmers can be part of the climate solution: Clic the link, scan the QR code, or Text Cal to 415-965-7445 to support MOFarm. MOFarm is an AgTech developing a MOF-based system to capture low-ppm methane from dairy barns and convert it into carbon credit and renewable natural gas revenue streams, helping California dairies meet SB 1383 targets while generating new income. When I agreed to be the University of California, Berkeley Big Ideas mentor for MOFarm I was astonished by the level of thought and commitment the team showed from day 1. It is effortless to chat with this impressive AgTech team across topics ranging from materials science, technology scaling, systems integration, and market analysis. They bring the perfect pairing of scientific rigour and "figure it out" resourcefulness, and I am here for that magic. Good luck to MOFarm (Ibrahim Noon, Ethan Foong, Tom Blake, and Zac Gibson) in this week's ACC InVenture Prize competition!
