10 startups. 4 industries. One night to see what's next in Sacramento innovation. This Thursday, May 7 (5:30–8PM), the SEGA iHUB wraps its inaugural Accelerate CA: Final Grant Awards Showcase — and it's going to be a good one. Funded through the California Office of the Small Business Advocate (CalOSBA)'s Accelerate California initiative, this program set out to identify and advance early-stage companies with real commercialization potential across the Greater Sacramento region. What emerged is a cohort that spans some of the most consequential tech sectors of our time. The Semifinalists: 🔬 Biotech, Life Sciences & Synthetic Biology → 5D | Yeast Bay Bio 🌱 Agrifood Tech & Biomanufacturing → Myospan | biochosen | Krokos Bio ⚡ Clean Energy & Climate Tech → Elven Technologies | Forager Fuels 🏥 MedTech & Diagnostics → Anchor Point Health | CARAIO Technologies Inc | Stork Labs Medical, Inc. This group made it through a rigorous evaluation process led by an exceptional Advisory Council — Ajith Anand, Meg Arnold, Neal Best, Tim Keller, Paul Ratner, John Selep, Nikki Sims, and Orville Thomas — whose time, expertise, and diligence shaped this entire process. Grateful for their commitment to this region. Thursday night you'll hear live pitches, learn how these teams are tackling hard problems, and be there when grant recipients are announced. Come celebrate what's being built here. 📍 Aggie Square | Thursday, May 7 | 5:30–8:00PM Link in comments 👇 #AccelerateCA #SEGA #SacramentoStartups #DeepTech #Innovation #Entrepreneurship #CarlsenCenter Sacramento Entrepreneurial Growth Alliance NorCal AngelCon StartupSac AgStart CleanStart MedStart Greater Sacramento Economic Council Valley Vision NORCAL SBDC NorCal SBDC Special Programs City of Sacramento Connect Labs by Wexford GFN UC Davis Student Startup Center UC Davis Venture Catalyst Food & Health Angels

Why "Building Fast" isn't enough as an entrepreneur or founder. Over the last three weeks at HOPin Academy, I’ve had the privilege of facilitating a deep dive into Human-Centered Design (HCD) with a cohort of incredible entrepreneurs with amazing products across EdTech, Agriculture Value Chain, Food systems, Climate resilience and open innovation. In a world obsessed with "Minimum Viable Products," we often forget that the 'V' stands for Viable, and a product isn't viable if it doesn't solve a deep, human pain point. In this video, I break down: ✅ What HCD actually looks like in the field. ✅ Why founders must fall in love with the problem, not the solution. ✅ When to pivot based on user feedback (and when to stay the course). Startups that listen the best, win the fastest. Huge thanks to the HOPin Academy team for the collaboration! How to Fund a Health Care or Life Sciences Startup Harvard Business School’s Senior Lecturer Satish Tadikonda and HBS Executive Fellow Michael Schrader led a deep dive on funding health care and life sciences ventures, covering both dilutive and non-dilutive pathways. They were joined by Andrea Jackson, Partner at Northpond Ventures, who brought a uniquely comprehensive perspective from her experience on both the operating side of startups and venture capital. Her candid insights on the tradeoffs of VC funding were especially valuable for founders navigating early decisions. A strong close to our yearlong series. Thank you to Satish, Michael, the HBS Health Care Initiative, and the many speakers who supported our HBS student founders building in health care and life sciences. #HarvardBusinessSchool #HBSHealthCareInitiative #HealthCare #LifeSciences #Entrepreneurship
