MOFarm is an AgTech developing a MOF-based system to capture low-ppm methane from dairy barns and convert it into carbon credit and renewable natural gas revenue streams, helping California dairies meet SB 1383 targets while generating new income. When I agreed to be the University of California, Berkeley Big Ideas mentor for MOFarm I was astonished by the level of thought and commitment the team showed from day 1. It is effortless to chat with this impressive AgTech team across topics ranging from materials science, technology scaling, systems integration, and market analysis. They bring the perfect pairing of scientific rigour and "figure it out" resourcefulness, and I am here for that magic. Good luck to MOFarm (Ibrahim Noon, Ethan Foong, Tom Blake, and Zac Gibson) in this week's ACC InVenture Prize competition! We all have a reason for building what we build. For me, it starts with my dad. He ran a dairy farm that eventually shut down. That was my first real exposure to how complex these challenges are. In 2022, I put together an AgTech portfolio of machines used on our farm (link in profile). One of many naive attempts to work on problems I didn’t fully understand yet. At Berkeley, I focused on finance and sustainability. At KPMG, working in carbon markets, I realized that emissions have real value. Then I met Tom, Ethan, and Zac in a UC Berkeley Sutardja Center for Entrepreneurship and Technology (SCET) class by Rana Kanaan. It just clicked. Our backgrounds, our technical depth, and a shared belief that we could build something meaningful to take on these challenges. That’s how MOFarm started. Now we’re representing University of California, Berkeley at the ACC InVenture Prize this week at University of Notre Dame. A very important step towards making this dream a reality.
