About us

At American Express, we know that with the right backing, people and businesses have the power to progress in incredible ways. Whether we’re supporting our customers’ financial confidence to move ahead, taking commerce to new heights, or encouraging people to explore the world, our colleagues are constantly striving to uphold our powerful backing promise to our customers and each other every day. These beliefs have been our North Star for 170 years as our business transformed – from helping evacuate travelers during World Wars, to ensuring the safety of our customers’ funds during the Great Depression in the U.S., to creating the Shop Small® movement to help small businesses recover from the Financial Crisis, to providing aid to communities impacted by many natural disasters and so much more. For generations, the key to our success has been the determination and resilience of our American Express colleagues. Now, as a globally integrated payments company, we work together to provide customers with access to products, insights and world-class experiences that enrich lives and build business success. In May, we celebrate Asian Pacific American Heritage Month in the U.S. and Asian Heritage Month in Canada—an opportunity to recognize the rich cultures, achievements, and contributions of Asian Americans, Pacific Islanders, and Canadians of Asian heritage. At American Express together with our Asian Colleague Network, we’re proud to highlight the unique perspectives and experiences of our colleagues across the company. Throughout the month, we’re hosting events and programming that foster learning and connection for #TeamAmex.   These moments play an important role in our ongoing commitment to creating a culture where all colleagues feel seen, respected, and supported. I’m looking forward to engaging with our colleagues and continuing to learn together.

  • In celebration of our 175th anniversary this year, we’re sitting down with our resident archivist, Ira, every month to explore a key milestone in Amex history. Ira is an avid fan of baseball history — as a kid, he even kept score at baseball games with his own scorebook and collected baseball cards. So imagine his excitement when he learned American Express used to have its own baseball teams. Watch below and then take a deeper dive into how American Express’ baseball teams came to be here: https://go.amex/2TVwGt

  • Today, American Express reported its first-quarter 2025 financial results, delivering strong revenue of $17.0 billion, up 7%, and EPS of $3.64, an increase of 9% over the prior year. Chairman and CEO Steve Squeri said: “We delivered strong results during the first quarter, reflecting the power of our premium customer base. Our performance across key areas, including Card Member spending, customer retention, demand for our premium products, and credit performance, continued to be strong across our customer base. Looking ahead, we will continue to manage the company for the long term, focusing on backing our customers and colleagues, exercising disciplined expense management, and strategically investing in our business.” Read more about our first-quarter results in our full earnings release here: https://go.amex/gPCtLX

  • Hot sauce runs through Maritza Abreu’s veins.  Her parents, who emigrated from the Dominican Republic in the 1970s, opened one of New York City’s oldest Dominican restaurants: Puerto Viejo, where they’ve served their family recipe — a smoky hot sauce — alongside homemade empanadas and sizzling platters of churrasco for decades. After a fire destroyed it in 2011, Abreu decided to bottle up her family’s hot sauce for loyal customers. Pisqueya was born. • We're proud to rank No. 4 on Great Place To Work US’s 2025 list of 100 Best Companies to Work For. This marks our 25th year on the list and sixth consecutive appearance in the top 10. “Our strong placement on the list this year is particularly meaningful as we celebrate our company’s 175th anniversary,” said Stephen J. Squeri, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer in a memo to U.S. colleagues about the news. “Throughout our history, American Express colleagues have helped the company grow and transform, bringing our brand to life for our customers since our earliest days. I’m incredibly proud that the spirit of ingenuity and dedication to our values is stronger today than ever.” https://go.amex/3GTWdg
