You might remember that last year was our 90th birthday, and as part of our celebrations, we installed 90 Little Book Stops, or community bookshelves, across the UK 📚🎊   Last month Meredith, our Head of Social Impact, visited the Little Book Stop at the Hamiltonhill Claypits in Glasgow along with Penguin author Frances Crawford. We’re delighted to announce the 44 independent bookshops that will be recipients of our Penguin Children’s Bookshop Grant! 🎉📚 These bookshops have been selected to receive grants of between £1,500 - £5,000, for projects to promote a love of reading amongst young people. These will include: a book gifting scheme for children in care, a young footballers’ reading club, and a reading programme centred around graphic novels and manga 🧡 You can see the names and locations of all the bookshops below. It's time for our Creative of The Month, where we celebrate and platform Penguin Cover Design Award alumni! 📚   This month we're celebrating Abby Muir, who was awarded 2nd place in the 2025 Cover Design Award, with her creation of a new design system for Penguin paperback books. Abby is a multi-disciplinary graphic designer graduating from Nottingham Trent University this summer 👏 'I love the challenges of graphic design and enjoy finding inventive solutions through research and experimentation. My work blends digital and analogue processes, using unique insights to tell stories.   Earlier this year, I received the Cameron Day Charitable Trust Grant in recognition of my dedication and creativity. Since being awarded second place for my cover design system, my entry to the Hatch competition has been shortlisted by BrandOpus, and I have entered the ISTD student assessment. I want to continue exploring new processes across branding, layouts, typography and book covers.'
