About us
A history stretching back over 200 years, HarperCollins is the second largest consumer book publisher in the world. Here at HarperCollins UK, we publish around 1,500 books a year for readers of all ages and interests. Our bestsellers include Bernard Cornwell, Adele Parks, Jonathan Franzen, David Walliams, and Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie. Memoirs of British prime ministers. Hilary Mantel’s Wolf Hall trilogy. George R. R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire series. And legendary titles by legacy authors J.R.R. Tolkien, Agatha Christie and C.S. Lewis. We’re home to the most iconic bears, Paddington, Rupert and Winnie-the-Pooh, and Judith Kerr, Rob Biddulph and Michael Morpurgo, Mr Men & Little Miss, Thomas & Friends and Minecraft for our younger readers. As the only UK publisher to release audio versions of all our new fiction, narrative non-fiction and children’s books at the same time as their print publication, we publish 700 audio books every year. In a unique partnership with the Royal National Institute for the Blind, our complete catalogue is free for their members. Collins Learning, our education division is a pioneer in reference publishing. We develop market-leading dictionaries, atlases and bibles. And our state-of-the-art online learning platforms supplement our award-winning books for primary and secondary school students. Brothers James and John Harper founded J. and J. Harper in 1817. By 1825, their small printing shop had become the biggest publisher in New York City. As Harper & Row in 1987, it was acquired by News Corporation. In 1990, we became HarperCollins after acquiring William Collins & Sons, founded in Glasgow in 1819. We have offices in London, Honley, Manchester, Glasgow and Dublin. In London, we’re in The News Building with News UK companies. Keeping our historic connection to Glasgow, we’re also based in the Robroyston district where each week, our distribution centre sends 3 million books around the world.

Recently, National Literacy Trust hosted its annual gala dinner at the Bloomsbury Ballroom in London. The event featured a silent auction to raise funds in support of the charity’s work in communities across the UK where low literacy and poverty have the greatest impact, helping ensure that children and families most in need are not left behind. Present at the event were Kate Elton, CEO, and HarperCollins UK authors Kate Mosse, Adele Parks, Rob Biddulph and Charlie Higson. HarperCollins contributed a standout selection of items to the silent auction. The gala raised an impressive £235,000 — a fantastic achievement that will help further the NLT’s mission to improve literacy rates across the country! #HarperCollins #Publishing

I recently had the pleasure of setting a children's book campaign brief for marketing and advertising students at the University of Greenwich. It was amazing to travel to their BEAUTIFUL campus to chat through the task, and then welcoming them to the HarperCollins Publishers UK offices where they presented their solutions to the brief a few weeks later. I was incredibly impressed by both the effort they put into the project and the thoughtfulness of their campaign plans. Many thanks to Dave Jennings for spearheading the project and to all the students who attended and presented such wonderful campaigns (for no extra course credit - just the love of the game!).

Today we unveiled the nationwide #GoAllIn2026 advertising campaign, a major moment for the National Year of Reading 2026. Backed by a powerful coalition of media partners, the ad will roll out across TV, radio, cinema, outdoor spaces, print and digital media. Developed by creative agency Fold7 the stop-motion, collage-style creative shows how reading plugs into the things people already love (whether it's football, horror or family time) and makes reading in all its various forms - books, audiobooks, comics and digital content - feel modern, fun and relevant. David Hayman, Director of the National Year of Reading 2026, said: “This campaign kicks off a range of exciting activations for the National Year of Reading… all of which will bring the joy of reading back to millions. This ad campaign focuses on fun, relevance and accessibility – not lecturing people about why reading matters – but instead showing how it connects to the things we already love.” Underpinned by the largest survey in the UK looking at the attitudes and barriers to reading amongst children over 10 years old and adults, this campaign represents an unprecedented cross‑industry effort to reignite a national love of reading. 👉 If you’re into it, read into it. Go All In.
