I've been using the chat since I've created my SO account(quite recently), and I was just checked by an anti-bot filter. For some reason, this is not a Captcha, and you just have to wait. It should be quick, but it never ended for me. Do you know a possible fix? Is it because of a blocker(I'm on Chrome)?

2I'm guessing this check was Cloudflare? Also were you using a VPN service at the time?Thom A– Thom A Mod2025-11-20 16:45:40 +00:00Commented Nov 20, 2025 at 16:45

I had a problem with Cloudfare that was blocked (or was blocking, I'm not familiar with this) recently, but don't know how to fix it. I am not using a VPN, but I did use private navigation on Chrome. Hope this helps.user31902834– user319028342025-11-20 16:49:38 +00:00Commented Nov 20, 2025 at 16:49

2Also reported in this answer on MSE. A hard reload worked for me, at least so far.Dan Getz– Dan Getz2025-11-20 16:54:37 +00:00Commented Nov 20, 2025 at 16:54

I quitted, waited and reloaded, and finally I was able to chat without taking again that test. However, that didn't really fix it, so any thought about the origin and possible fixes are welcome.user31902834– user319028342025-11-20 17:04:25 +00:00Commented Nov 20, 2025 at 17:04

1The origin was a bug in a feature that was rolled out and then rolled back after a few minutes. It should not occur again, or if it does, the cause of the bug should be different, the next time the feature is rolled out.TylerH– TylerH2025-11-20 18:42:37 +00:00Commented Nov 20, 2025 at 18:42

Per balpha's answer to this bug report on Ask Ubuntu:
This was rolled back pretty quickly, looks like you managed to load the page just within those few minutes it was alive 😬
This "not a robot" thing is going to come soon for new users (there'll be an announcement), but for now it was supposed to be disabled (and not in this half-enabled broken state that you ran into).
Sorry about that 🙁
