I've been using the chat since I've created my SO account(quite recently), and I was just checked by an anti-bot filter. For some reason, this is not a Captcha, and you just have to wait. It should be quick, but it never ended for me. Do you know a possible fix? Is it because of a blocker(I'm on Chrome)?

I'm guessing this check was Cloudflare? Also were you using a VPN service at the time? Commented Nov 20, 2025 at 16:45
  • I had a problem with Cloudfare that was blocked (or was blocking, I'm not familiar with this) recently, but don't know how to fix it. I am not using a VPN, but I did use private navigation on Chrome. Hope this helps. Commented Nov 20, 2025 at 16:49

Also reported in this answer on MSE. A hard reload worked for me, at least so far. Commented Nov 20, 2025 at 16:54
  • I quitted, waited and reloaded, and finally I was able to chat without taking again that test. However, that didn't really fix it, so any thought about the origin and possible fixes are welcome. Commented Nov 20, 2025 at 17:04

The origin was a bug in a feature that was rolled out and then rolled back after a few minutes. It should not occur again, or if it does, the cause of the bug should be different, the next time the feature is rolled out. Commented Nov 20, 2025 at 18:42

Per balpha's answer to this bug report on Ask Ubuntu:

This was rolled back pretty quickly, looks like you managed to load the page just within those few minutes it was alive 😬

This "not a robot" thing is going to come soon for new users (there'll be an announcement), but for now it was supposed to be disabled (and not in this half-enabled broken state that you ran into).

Sorry about that 🙁
