DevCheck for iPhone and iPad — FAQ
Is DevCheck safe?
Yes. DevCheck reads information about your iPhone or iPad and shows it to you. It uses your location only on the GPS page, while that page is open, and never stores or sends it. Battery analytics files you share with DevCheck never leave your device. When you submit a benchmark, DevCheck sends the scores and your device's hardware configuration, with nothing that identifies you; the privacy policy has the full list.
Why is DevCheck's battery percentage slightly different from the status bar?
iOS gives apps the battery level in 5% steps, so DevCheck and its widgets show the nearest step. The status bar shows the exact value. The difference is never more than 2%.
How do I see my battery's cycle count and health?
Turn on Settings › Privacy & Security › Analytics & Improvements › Share iPhone Analytics. The next day, open Analytics Data on the same screen, tap the newest file whose name starts with "Analytics-", tap Share and choose DevCheck. The file never leaves your device.
Why doesn't DevCheck show CPU temperature or clock speed?
iOS doesn't give apps temperatures or live clock speeds. DevCheck shows the thermal state iOS reports (Normal, Warm, Hot or Critical) and the chip's published specifications.
Can I compare my scores with other phones?
Yes. DevCheck for iOS runs the same workloads with the same scoring as DevCheck for Android, so scores compare across platforms. See the rankings at devcheck.app.
What is sent when I submit a benchmark?
The scores and the device's hardware configuration, with nothing that identifies you. See the privacy policy for the full list.
Why can't DevCheck show MAC addresses?
iOS doesn't give apps MAC addresses, so the network mapper identifies devices by name, services and open ports, and the Bluetooth scanner uses an identifier that's only meaningful to DevCheck.
How do I use DevCheck in another language?
Add the language in Settings › General › Language & Region, then choose it in Settings › Apps › DevCheck › Language. iOS shows that option once more than one language is set up.
Why don't my widgets update right away?
iOS limits how often widgets refresh. Tap the refresh button on the widget for a new reading.
Does DevCheck need my location?
Only for the GPS page, and only while it's open. Your location isn't stored or sent anywhere.
