About these guidelines
These guidelines apply to all news reports, analysis and editorial content published by CnEVPost, and are binding on all editorial staff, including the founder.
CnEVPost's editorial standards are modeled on industry practices followed by international news agencies. Our readers closely follow operating and financial information about China's EV industry and its supply chain, and some of that information may be used as a reference for investment decisions. That means our standard for accuracy must be higher than that of a general-interest information website.
Accuracy comes before speed and traffic
Accuracy is CnEVPost's highest editorial principle. It takes precedence over speed and traffic.
Specifically:
When in doubt, no publishing. If the core facts of a rumor cannot be verified, we will either not report it or wait until the facts can be verified. We would rather miss a trending story than publish information we cannot confirm.
Better late than wrong. For breaking news, we prioritize publishing what has been confirmed. Information that has not been verified will either be clearly identified as "unconfirmed" or omitted, rather than presented as fact simply to be first.
Data must be traceable to primary sources. Key figures cited in our articles — including sales, deliveries, financial data and stock prices — must be checked against primary sources such as company announcements, financial reports, regulatory filings and official statistics. We do not rely solely on third-party reports for such figures.
Sources and verification
We use sources in the following order of priority.
Our first priority is primary documents and official channels, including company announcements, financial reports and earnings calls, regulatory filings, court documents and official statistics.
Our second priority is direct statements from the parties involved, including public comments by named executives and direct responses from companies to our inquiries.
Our third priority is reporting by other media organizations. When citing such reports, we identify and link to the original source and, wherever possible, independently verify key facts against primary sources.
For market rumors and information from anonymous sources, our general rule is not to report claims that we cannot independently verify. If a rumor has clear news value — for example, because it has already had a material impact on a company's share price — we will explicitly identify it as a “rumor” or attribute it to “people familiar with the matter,” explain that the information could not be independently verified, and seek to include the company's response or state that the company declined to comment.
We do not use vague phrases such as "it is understood", "it is learned" or "it is reported" to conceal the absence of a clearly identifiable source.
When translating or compiling reports from other media organizations, we identify the original source and independently check key facts. We do not assume responsibility for or repeat errors in the original report without verification.
Editorial independence
CnEVPost's editorial coverage is not influenced by advertisers, commercial partners or automakers.
Advertisers and commercial partners have no role in selecting stories, reviewing articles before publication or determining our editorial position. If an article concerns a company with which CnEVPost has a commercial relationship, we will disclose that relationship in the article.
We do not accept any arrangement in which benefits are offered in exchange for covering or not covering a company or subject. We do not publish undisclosed paid content. All commercial content is clearly labeled as "Sponsored" or "Advertisement."
Conflicts of interest
As of the latest update to these guidelines, CnEVPost's current editorial staff do not hold securities in the companies that are among the site's primary subjects of coverage.
If an editor or reporter in the future covers a company in which they hold securities — including shares, options or other derivatives — that holding must be disclosed in the article.
Editorial staff may not trade securities using unpublished information obtained through their work. They may not buy or sell securities when they know CnEVPost is preparing to publish a report that could materially affect the price of those securities.
Financial content disclaimer
CnEVPost's content consists of news reporting and information and does not constitute investment advice, a recommendation to buy or sell securities, or any other form of financial advice.
Although we make every effort to verify operating and financial information about the companies we cover, readers are responsible for any investment decisions they make based on that information and do so at their own risk.
We recommend that readers review companies' original disclosures and consult licensed professionals before making investment decisions.
AI use disclosure
We use AI tools to assist with certain parts of our editorial workflow, including research and information organization, initial translations of foreign-language materials, and data visualization.
All fact-checking, editorial judgment and final preparation of published content are performed by and remain the responsibility of our editorial staff. We do not publish AI-generated content that has not been reviewed and edited by a human.
All data used in our reporting is manually collected by our editorial staff from original sources.
The bylined author of an article bears full responsibility for its accuracy, regardless of whether AI tools were used during the writing process.
Errors and corrections
We do not conceal errors. When we discover a factual error, we correct it promptly and disclose the correction publicly. We do not make substantive corrections through silent edits.
For our full procedures — including the distinctions between corrections, updates, clarifications and retractions, and how to report an error — see our [Corrections Policy].
Bylines and accountability
All CnEVPost articles carry a clear byline, and the bylined author is responsible for the content of the article.
For comments or complaints regarding these guidelines or CnEVPost's reporting, please contact [email protected]. Such matters are handled by founder Phate Zhang.
