a little disappointed in the lack of sd card slot and 3.5mm output considering lots of other redmis have those — rest of the featureset is nice, though. love the battery especially. far too expensive for what it provides, though

You praise HyperOS so much, but the experience of running it on a Poco X8 Pro with 12GB of RAM isn't the same as on this device. Plus, the HyperOS/MIUI experience itself isn't what it used to be a few years ago.
This phone is simply overpriced. The SoC is inadequate. Its "UFS 4.1" is really just rebranded UFS 3, since the SoC can't reach UFS 4 speeds (something even this review mentioned). The cameras aren't remarkable. The screen is just the standard. And regarding the battery, which is the standout feature, it still doesn't reach its full potential due to the SoC and the OS.
As someone else said below, this phone is for basic use, but even and I'm sorry to that person, you can get that with a phone for €300 or less. If this phone drops in price drastically over the months, it only shows that it was overpriced in the first place.
I don't know why you keep defending it as if Xiaomi were paying you for it (you're not even on X, where at least you earn a few cents per interaction), but if your goal was to prove that this phone is a beast and all that, every time someone tells you another phone is better, it just proves this one isn't (it doesn't matter that those phones came out earlier because this one still launched with Android 16 just like everyone else). If it's pure rage, it's the laziest thing I've ever seen.

Here's a list of better phones at similar, lower or slightly higher prices when seen as complete packages instead of focusing on only particular strengths or weaknesses:
Samsung Galaxy A57
Poco X8 Pro Max
Honor 600
Poco F8 Pro
Xiaomi 17T
Oppo Reno15
Pixel 10a (yes even a Pixel is worth the money compared to this Redmi)
Galaxy S26, where i live that phone is only 10€ more expensive in its base trim
A base iPhone 16, also just 50€ more expensive in base trim where i live.
All of those phones gets you through a day of normal usage, might be a bit tight with the Pixel but should be possible, all of them have similar or better camera hardware and most of them are equipped with better SoCs.
There is absolutely no good reason to buy the Redmi Note 17 Pro Max, not just that they could have shaved off some cost. UFS 3.1 instead of UFS 4.0, scrap the 128GB UFS 2.2 version all together, slightly lower end screen that caps out at 1080p, no Dolby certificates,
