IP69 or IP68 or anything is cheaper as long as there are lot of phones in bulk that need that coating.
Besides, if other brands are providing it, then there's no excuse for Nothing.
This is a tight market and you have to provide certain features to justify the INR 30k and above price.

To achieve IP69, it gets really costly, hardware wise. When you do that on a flagship phone, it doesn't seem much cost wise because they have best of the best hardware compared to low end and midrange smartphones in every area but when you do it on midrange and low end smartphone it just seems silly and feels like they spent the money and effort on the wrong area. For example, IP55 is fine on a low end smartphone, IP66 is fine on a midrange smartphone. IP69 rating should be for flagship phones, not low end and midrange smartphones.
Edit: I guess for midrange phones, it's more nuanced whether or not it should have that IP69 rating.

The Poco X8 Pro Max is cheaper, much ... moreIn my country Galaxy A56 cost more than Nothing Phone 4a Pro and I would happily go with 4a Pro or even 4a just for the optimized, bloat-free Nothing OS. Unlike Samsung, there is almost zero lag or judder effect when using Nothing OS and the OS is very polished and refined which I liked very much. I don't bother about gaming performance in a smartphone since I have a reasonably capable PC that does that far better than the best smartphone in the planet.
For smartphone gamer, yes, there may be better alternatives for the price point. For non-gaming usage the Nothing Phone 4a Pro as well as 4a is very good to use and I would strongly recommend over any boring Samsung.

I like the design. It is the best looking nothing phone but it is way too big. If it was 6.5" at most I would buy it

Weaker than Galaxy A56, which costs 250 euros in Europe. The Poco X8 Pro Max is cheaper, much more powerful with an 8500 mAh battery. I don’t see who would pay 400 euros for Nothing.

I like the phone, but unfortunately its very expensive for what it offers.
CMF 2 Pro is probably the best value someone can find from Nothing these days.
