Anonymous, 23 May 2025Fingerprint reader side-mounted?? Why??It's brilliant, you can pick the phone up, secure it in your hand, unlock it and then use it, all in one motion.
Back or front sensors would seem unnatural and awkward on Xperia phones. You would almost have you use a separate movement to unlock it and then use it,
This is one of reasons I prefer Sony phones.
Samsung fold and flip phones also have them on the side as well now.

For the people complaining about sheet-specs - have you owned or used an Xperia phone at all? I've had the Xperia 1.I and 5.III before, these phones are made to last. I personally really like Sony's design language but I understand why its not for everyone.
I've made a pre-order, hoping my purple 1.VII will arrive in a couple of weeks. There are a few key reasons why I'm switching back after using Galaxy- and Pixel models.
- Some camera features that will really come in handy for my line of work where color accuracy and macro details are important.
- The impeccable sound that Sony's phones provide when using the phone feature (quality like few others).
- The extended time on OS and Security upgrades (although I think we should thank EU's new regulations for this).
- The battery life. GSMArena generally provide good reviews but I've noticed that some of their tests are not always applicable on real life use. Sony has stated and demonstrated that the VII's battery holds for longer than it' s predecessor and I know them well enough to trust them on this.
- 3.5mm-jack is a nice feature but I rarely use wired headphones these days.
- I love the design.
In my experience, the top- and bottom bezels aren't as noticable as a hole-punch camera +it allows for good front-facing stereo speakers.
Although, I wish there were more options for accessories. Most of the best accessory-brands won't be bothered since Sony has a very small market share.
Fingerprint reader side-mounted?? Why??

Anonymous, 22 May 2025Honestly I don't care about cameras in a phone, i buy dedicated camera from Sony or other... moreA phone camera just can't compare. The audio quality could compare favorably to a DAP but they aren't interested in that.

As for this phone, even if it were available in the U.S. and even of I could afford it, I would probably get a portable DAP and another phone because it's just too pricey. If the audio quality were comparable to my old LG V60, it would be more tempting but I suspect that it does sound better than previous modeles bit not significantly so to justify the price.
Anonymous, 19 May 2025I'd love to buy a Sony, really, and I've been waiting for so many years, but I care ... moreHad a S23 Ultra and colours were not even close to correct, main 200MP camera being the worst. With Xperia 1 VI there are correct colours in ALL cameras.
While shooting in normal Automatic mode I get AF tracking and SPOT metering AT THE SAME TIME. Samsung will not give you spot metering in Auto mode. Also in Automatic mode you get not only exposure compensation but also WB compensation. You can even get manual shutter speed and manual focus in Automatic mode. The level of control over shooting in Automatic mode with Xperia is mindblowing once you get the hang of it.
The tele zoom camera has bad sharpness but continuous zoom is a unique treat that is often more useful than fixed lenses.
All in all the best camera smartphone and it comes at UNDER 200g which is really rare these days for a flagship photo smartphone.
Screen could need a boost in resolution but the 1080p panel at least saves battery!

I just don't understand the anger and hated directed toward... moreIt's just about people not being able to handle that you have preferences, because they don't have any. When they see you actually have a personality, they get triggered, because they just go with the flow and try to be liked, so they simply cannot handle a person who likes to use SD card slots :D. Of course, you could put any kind of thing innstead of "SD card slot" :)).

I use an Xperia 5 III and would buy this one if it were available in the U.S., or I manage to flee, and if I could afford it. Judging by most of the comments here, I should hang my head in shame for this.

Can someone from GSMArena.com compare the speakers with Dolby Atmos settings enabled for both under custom? I find that on the Xperia 1 VI the sound is much louder.

I'm still a sucker for a notchless phone with microSD and a headphonejack. Seeing the price, I'll just go with the VI hopefully for a nice pricedrop after the VII hits the shelves.
