They failed to innovate where it mattered to sustain market share. Cost didn't fit the product
On one hand, it's sad to see them go. Their early devices were interesting alternatives to prevalent flagships. Even though their latest phones were mostly clones of mainstream devices, it is still sad to have less diversity in phone designs, and fewer options.
On another hand, things like this further send more users toward established giants like Apple and Samsung, knowing you can trust that devices you buy from them won't lose effective support shortly after, as the brand is well on its way to wrap up its remaining operations.
I can only hope we eventually get new contenders doing something differently in their place.
D7, 14 Jul 2026This is what GSM Arena commenters here do not understand - the bigger picture and how and why ... moreUS market is a double edged sword for Xiaomi. They already tried to ban Xiaomi and would likely make further attempts.
That's why people in Europe buy Samsung products.

A great company with strong products. Unfortunately, the market is oversaturated, and it's not always the weakest competitors that end up folding.

This is what GSM Arena commenters here do not understand - the bigger picture and how and why Samsung and Apple are the only two factors in phone market. Others are just noise and followers that (try to) fill the gaps.
This is another major hit at Chinese brands and manufacturers from a reliability, long-term investment and many other business perspectives, as it will put additional burden and extra caution to distributers and sellers, not forgetting service / repair centers. Same thing happened to beloved Vivo here, but most are unaware or forget.
Xiaomi is the only brand that stands a chance now in the long run, but without US market it will simply never gonna reach the highest market dominance in sales/revenue from phones alone (but it is a market giant in its own way, that's why it might have a chance).
We'll see how things unfold in the future.

Samsung only recently bumped their up to 7. They were behind on support until the last 2 years.
You think casual users even care to know how long their phones will get updates? most users win the west upgrade well before 4 years. In the US it's just below 3. It's not even something any of these companies put at the forefront of their marketing. Consumers care more about cameras.

But got to admit when I upgraded my phone from the OnePlus 12 and knew what was happening to OnePlus I got the Oppo Find X9 Pro and not the OnePlus 15 and glad I did as the Oppo Find X9 Pro is fantastic , I would not buy any OnePlus stuff now in 2026 but that's me in the UK
Enjoying my oneplus pad 3 and buds pro 2. Powerful fast tablet. Very cool green earbuds with bassy sound. Just awesome. Sad to see oneplus is going.
Isn't it because OnePlus was once good specs affordable phones and now it is overpriced-nothing-special comparing to competition?

I saw what was happening with OnePlus in January 2026 and got the Oppo find X9 Pro when I upgraded my phone from the OnePlus 12 , I would not buy anything OnePlus in 2026 , I just hope with my OnePlus buds 4 , watch 3 and pad 3 that I got in 2025 updates and warranty is still covered in the next few years , but still I would not go near OnePlus in 2026 in the UK as it was obvious what was happening
OxygenOS was good. This is something I will miss.
