Sam N8 808 owner, 26 Jul 2026Woah, woah, ok, I really don't want a microSD for sneaking into my nose and taking it to ... moreIn my last comment I mentioned 'Nose cards' to highlight one example of when the world / phone companies saw microSD cards as a good and useful thing which was also seen as important. But suddenly it's no longer worth having.
As for Apple being the reason for the removal of microSD card slots and 3.5 jacks, I think it was indirectly their fault. Apple is notorious for ripping off their customers (* cough * same phone with different name for last 10 years * cough *). I think when they removed the features other companies did the same, as they seem to believe Apple is the goat who needs to be copied, even though companies like Samsung are far better in many ways.
But to be really honest, I think it's all about Money and harvesting data for AI. You need to remember AI has been around before the public was ever made aware of it, and all it's training data came from places like meta, Google, and your lovely cloud storage buckets. The terms and conditions effectively say your turn ownership over to the provider and give them the right to access your stuff, if if the phone has no microSD slot you'll need to backup your data in the cloud.

I reme... moreWoah, woah, ok, I really don't want a microSD for sneaking into my nose and taking it to a foreign land, but its good for breaking the memory monopoly (1TB edition of a phone costs almost twice as 128GB for no clear reason) and customer multi-penalising (If you get multiple 512GB-1TB phones in your life, you end up paying a premium price multiple times, even if you use only 1 phone at a time. In a microSD card, you pay once, then shift cards when the phone changes).
Plus it also helps with memory prices in the long term.
But honestly, do you think Apple has so much power? or was it just sarcasm?
I was thinking more in terms of maybe some secret data control agency of USA or something we don't know. MicroSD card slots & 3.5mm jacks still exist- only on low end phones though.
I'm sure though, something is stopping companies from implementing these 2 features.
Nokia, HTC, LG, Sony, and now Oneplus, they all got penalised in different ways for doing so.

I remember years back reading a news article saying SD card slots on phones were a good thing because it would help people sneak band video media into places like N. Korea, and they called them 'Nose cards' because they could be hidden the persons nose when moving them between people then put into the phone to watch the media.
Now suddenly, SD card slots are 'obsolete' :-(

Sony didn't give up on 3.5mm jack and microSD slot. It started disappearing, and pulling out of very important markets. Left India in 2017.
LG didn't give up on 3.5mm jack and microSD slot. It died for strange reasons.
Oneplus launched the most powerful (non-Sony) phone globally with a microSD slot:- Nord CE5. It is dying for no visible reason, somehow forced into Oppo.
And CE5 wasn't a bad phone at 22k, with 6 years of software updates.
Is offering a 3.5mm jack or a microSD slot in a capable phone, punishing for companies? As if some global power starts to kill them secretly? Why do they suddenly end up losing, for no clear reason?
Is this a global mandate? Is the smartphone industry being controlled by someone?

Ugh.. I'm in the US and went from an OP8 Pro to an iPhone 15 and wanted to go back this year so bad. Sad to see them go. I've seen some people in the states go with an Oppo Find X9 Pro or Ultra (and I do love that orange Ultra), but at the price point, nervous to pull the trigger on some of the place I see the global version.

Oppo is too expensiveI got the Oppo Find X9 Pro 16gb / 512gb in the UK cheaper than the OnePlus 15 16gb / 512gb and with the oppo I got a free oppo smart watch and oppo charger on top ( oppo £849 and OnePlus £929 ) at the time I bought the oppo in December 2025.. Even now the oppo find x9 Pro is cheaper than the OnePlus 15 in the UK with the same specs ie 16gb / 512gb versions

Oh, come on man.
I meant to switch from Samsung ecosystem to One+.
Galaxy Watch 4 to 1+3 Watch because of much longer battery life and still on Wear OS (Gpay).
And from Galaxy Tab S9 to 1+3 Pad (better HW specs for less money).
Guess will have to stick with Scamsung :(

As long as OnePlus is in China and you read the "how to guides" in XDA forum, future OnePlus phones may still work fine (except for certain needed bands not in China model). We still have Xiaomi (pricier) or Motorola phones (lower class chip) as alternatives if tinkering is not your forte... My OnePlus 13 will be replaced by a phone in 2027/28 once the prices are stable again... skipping 2026 flagships for sure....

Oneplus just used marketing gimmicks to overprice it's products every year without any solid investment on research and development, same giimcks upgrading camera and offering lollypop minor reshaping design, which hardly involve any investment
Oneplus tried to follow apple and crashed

And yes, OnePlus did make many bad decisions... One of those bad decisions was to remove a feature that many people want from their flagship phone... SD slot and 3.5mm jack.
Just because you dislike or do not want these features does not mean we all do not want them. But then again, so many people seem to have main character syndrome where they believe life is only for them and what they want must be what the whole world wants.

That's why I went for the Oppo Find X9 Pro , when I upgraded my phone , I would not touch OnePlus now in the UK .. it's was obvious what was happening in January 2026
yes I have the OnePlus 3 Pad , buds 4 and watch 3 that I got in 2025, I will cross my fingers and hope the warranty works and updates still come when OnePlus complely leave the UK .
But as I said I would not buy any OnePlus stuff in 2026 in the UK and hope for the best , but that's me
