Kinda makes me wonder what Sony have been thinking. They phased out of the PC market (VAIO), they will eventually completely phase out of the TV market (Bravia), they discontinued their excellent Bluray players and yet... they choose to stick with their least popular line of products (Xperia)? What's the deal with that? I have been a long time Sony fan and even I have to say they deserve every bit of bad business going their way.

I would be more than surprised if telephoto cam gets a new sensor. That would mean overhaul of telescope module which they already did on 1VI a year ago.

What's more, HMD at least releases junk that gets media coverage; Sony doesn't even do that.

Mind you after Apple upgraded the sensors in iPhone 14 Pro for main (48 MP 1/1.28"), 15 Pro for telephoto sensor with periscope prism (12 MP periscope 5x 120mm 1/3.06"), and 16 Pro for ultrawide sensor (48 MP 1/2.55"), the subsequent Xperia released next year also followed and got their sensors upgraded (1 V main 48 MP 1/1.35", 1 VI telephoto reach to 170mm 7.1x, and 1 VII ultrawide 48 MP 1/1.56"). Now that Apple upgraded iPhone Pro's periscope telephoto to 48 MP 1/2.55" 4x in the 17 Pro series, there's no way 1 VIII won't upgraded their telephoto sensor, especially Apple is still procuring Sony sensors as far this comment was written. I am myself don't know what sensor size, telephoto reach as Sony leaks only become and always been reliable at the last-minute leaks, but I am sure 1 VIII will be getting at least a upgrade in the overdue telephoto either Apple-styled 48 MP periscope or even more bizarre 200 MP telephoto upgrade.

My last sony phone was z3. Really good phone. But the back panel seperated and it became very slow. Also battery life was short. Haven't tried any sony for years. Now only have sony earphones. Model is xb55ap. Wired earphones with powerful bass.

Given Sony is probably on a 2 year design cycle like the main players, maybe they'll actually make something competitive this year. Their phones aren't necessarily bad they're just wildly overpriced, probably deliberately to give the illusion that the features they offer are 'expensive' or 'hard to implement'.
