Osiris, 11 Feb 2026In reality Sony is a dead brandNah, not really.
Sony Playstation still going strong
Sony Music wont be gone anytime soon
Are their headphones part of the Phone-Branch or is it standalone?
These do fine as well as far as I can see them on people here and there
Xperia has its unique design, and no other brand is same style of design.
Xperia is just the entry-level of Sony products.
If you dig deeper for Sony's legendary product such as Alpha, Bravia and Walkman, you will understand the philosophy behind the company.
"Be Move "."One Sony ',' Make believe". and the latest "kando" slogan shows the company's vision and passion for make product.
That is why it can't end smartphone business, Xperia has all the other departments' elements and packs them in one package.

aidonoh, 10 Feb 2026I can't help but feel that certain people on this site are paid actors from companies to ... moreYou realize every silicon board requires what is essentially a city planner but on a micro level right? This also requires collaboration with the body designers and engineers, not to mention finding buyers to purchase from. Adding on additional ""features"" that almost no one uses and having to go through that amount of R&D is pointless.
The people that want these features are almost exclusively the poors, so why would they put these features on flagship phones they are almost guaranteed not to be able to afford, and will only raise the costs of the end product?
The only reason Sony puts these features on their phones; 1) because they recycle generally the same body design every new iteration, which works to an extent but also explains why they get so many major issues. Because they generally have to adapt new technology to an aging board architecture. 2) a large proportion of their consumer base are more elderly customers that opt to get phones that come with mobile plan deals. 3) they're out of touch.
Inb4; "but muh audiophile". First off, "audiophile" is such a stupid word. Second, there hasn't been a single good iteration of a hi-fi mobile phone, the LG was MID at best. Third, you can literally buy DAPs that take steamy dumps all over the LGs for less than $200 nowadays.
Anonymous, 09 Feb 2026Ultras don't sell. And the reason they don't sell are those gigantic redundant senso... moreI never had ergonomic problem, no matter what device, as for ultras, I mostly aim to buy those, so I dont get how they arent popular as you say.
As for the price, it matters to me a little now, if I can get the specs I want, like,
if there was foldable with samsung lvl of AI image editing, their hi res hdr raw quality, hi res cameras with tele being 200mp, pen support, 1TB space, paying 3000 euro for that is possible.
I use a phone for years, not buying every second or third year, so when you divide this price to 5-6 years, its about 500 each year.
Anonymous, 10 Feb 2026Kinda makes me wonder what Sony have been thinking. They phased out of the PC market (VAIO), ... moreBut in reality, their business is thriving: operating income for nine months ended December 31 - more than $8 billions!!! (Compared to the previous calculation period, the growth was more than $1 billion!)
YUKI93, 10 Feb 2026I really hope the 1 VIII get a brand new wide and telephoto camera sensor. After all, I notice... moreJust imagine, seeing the new Sony flagship with a new main camera sensor close to 1 inch in size, a new telephoto lens with like 50 MP sensor doing the same zoom setup as the current one, and a new 5500 mAh battery!
Too bad this won't happen this year!
Cpt.Power, 10 Feb 2026Well the onyl thing which will change is price due to more expensive ram components. As I said, the periscope telephoto sensors and lenses for 1 VIII is definitely getting an upgrade for sure. Maybe new main camera as well. Why? Just look at my previous comment about Apple iPhone 14 Pro to 17 Pro getting upgrades on their sensors one of their focal lengths, and the subsequent Xperia followed suit regardless. The rest of the specs are still unknown due to Sony water-tight leaks since 2014, compared to other brands.
Anonymous, 10 Feb 2026Kinda makes me wonder what Sony have been thinking. They phased out of the PC market (VAIO), ... moreI said it in the past and I said it again. One short answer: "Telecommunications tech insiide Snapdragon SOC to develop it for other Sony divisions."
Without Xperia, everything's gonna even more costly and riskier than ever for Sony to develop anything that relied telecom techs, which is high risk low reward path for Sony if Sony terminated Xperia. Xperia is the last division of Sony to have this tech after Vaio was sold 12 years ago. Especially everything is now relying on telecommunications like their cameras or their Afeela cars

I really hope the 1 VIII get a brand new wide and telephoto camera sensor. After all, I noticed that Sony used a wide camera sensor for three generation before moving to a new one - the 1 II/III/IV had a 12MP 1/1.7" sensor before moving to the current 48MP 1/1.35" sensor first seen in 1 V. 1 VIII should be the right time for a brand new wide camera sensor.
P.S. Given how hot the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 can be, Sony should invest in silicon carbide battery. I don't doubt they can develop a great cooling system as seen in 1 VII, but that alone won't be enough.

Anton the. Papi, 09 Feb 2026Of course, because you know everyone's bank accounts and lives here, hahaha, go to sleep,... moreI mean, dude is not entirely wrong. People complain about the cost of Sony phones, well knowing there is no competitor at the high end, then don't provide an alternative. I would think if they actually did like sony phones or could afford them, that would be mentioned. So the conclusion is either A they don't understand why people buy sony phones (card slot and headphone jack), or B they can't afford. A seems terribly obvious to me, so therefore B is not a bad guess.
Anonymous, 09 Feb 20265 series is K.I.A. by the small phone paradox that most users are getting their hands larger. Most people don't really use for calls. It's just a pocket computer for games, movies, messages and for most things you can do on a phone that's not calling, the bigger the screen the better. The better thermals, the better battery, better cameras. And all for the sacrifice of using two hands.
Small phones don't sell. Then again, Sony phones also don't sell, I think they don't even ship more than a million of these a year.
