After having Xperia 5 II for some time, this does not surprise me at slightest. The one I had had so many issues (wifi randomly turning off, drop down menu getting stuck etc.) that I ended up upgrading to Galaxy A52 5G for half the price and was much more satisfied with it. The software really does an awful lot.

I still think Sony makes an amazing hardware, but in terms of software they simply cannot compete with the bigger brands

They really didn’t understand where is the problem,
that’s why many people known “Made in Japan” isn’t as good as before,
even their products is made outside Japan.

If I have to choose a phone at one point, I'm not thinking about the release schedule. The 16PM is both competing with the S24U and S25U because it was released in between, that's it.

Sad world where people only consider Apple and Samsung

Ellio74, 05 Jul 2025They're improving. I've had lots of Xperia and I can see the improvements every year... moreThe problem is that by the time a new Xperia 1 phone is available, you can probably buy a Samsung Galaxy S Ultra phone for much cheaper. Apple phones that will be released this year aren't direct competitors of Samsung high-end phones that are released earlier. They directly compete with Samsung high-end phones that will be released next year. Google phones are almost irrelevant like Sony phones.

Anonymous, 05 Jul 2025Good service, in contrast with samsung when deal with s23 banana blurThe banana blur issue on S23 was due to (bad) lens design. It's caused by a field curvature of the lens, and all units suffered from the same issue; therefore there was no way for Samsung to "fix" it. It's just like how Xperia 1 VI/VII's telephoto lens has a very poor sharpness across the frame - it's problematic, yes, but the companies specifically designed the lenses this way while being aware of the risk.

Bootlooping implies a serious QC issue, meaning some units that are potentially affected by it have slipped through the quality check and made an escape to retail when they obviously shouldn't have. Any companies that do not provide a repair or a full replacement for this kind of problem would be only making themselves look awful, so it's only natural for us to expect Sony to give as much support to their customers as they can.

TD070VA1, 05 Jul 2025It took them a while to release the thing only to realize that they have not tested the thing ... moreIt's a surprise that they even bother to fix any of the multiple issues. I used to own their top-of-the-line AV amplifier, which had numerous software issues, one on top of another - a huge stack of them. Guess what? They never bothered to fully fix the thing. I bet they never really tested it before starting to sell the product, same thing with this phone.

Based on my experiences with their so-called support some years back, this means either no reply/call back at all, or a general Sony "F you, you're on your own" thing. Yikes.

I've had lots of Xperia and I can see the improvements every year. Why would it be an issue releasing the phone at this time of the year ? It's their release schedule, Google and Apple do it way later in September, some Chinese manufacturers do it right after the new batch of SOC release near the end of the year. I've had iPhones, Pixels, and I always come back to Sony because I Like their cameras more that those above (I just wish the tele was on par with the other 2 rear cams). Not to mention that a phone is more than a camera, and till this day nothing I've tried so far was able to meet my needs more than these Sony phones
