Well, its been a ride Sony. Was a big fan of their SonyEricsson lineup way back and Xperia Z line.

I've had the Xperia P, Z, Z3 and from there I switched to iPhone 6S, X and now on RedMagic 10Pro. Sony's hardware is really lame for the price.

My P and Z phones had a greenline on the IPS LCD just months after using it, the HDMI port flap cover from my Xperia P just went off, only has a glue, and the Xperia Z and Z3 had hardware issues within several months of use only. Poor build quality for the asking price.

While there is no actual breakdown per model we can assume that both 1VI and 1V have sold well over million units last year. In comparison vivo has claimed success that X100 Ultra has sold 70,000 on the same day when it was released on sale. I wouldn't be surprised that chinese Ultra models sell in exact same numbers as Xperia 1 with Xiaomi 15 Ultra being an exception cause its properly available globally. Yet we don't even have a breakdown for 15 Ultra either, all we have is the word from CEO that it has sold 50% more than 14 Ultra.

Got the XQ-FS72 model. So I think the issue is just the Japan model then.

That's a shame really.. Sony had a great player here. They limited it's availability to many countries though and apparently it's plugged by serious issues no phone of this price should have!
The Xperia brand is near it's end guys. It was good while it lasted. And don't tell me it's not. Sony pushed the production of vii to 3rd parties, lowered it's availability to markets they were previously available! Even their main page doesn't mention it! Sony Xperia sucks. And this comes from a hige Xperia fan.

Oh, well, they outsourced the production to an ODM, so it's not that surprising.

If their prices were lower and these were available where I live it would be my first choice because I am stuck in the past and don't like current phones at all. I enjoy having expandable memory, headphone jack and I like the design. The 5III I have still works fine expect that the battery drains too quickly. Yes, if the price were less and it was available where I live, I would buy it except, you know, I would sort of kind of appreciate if the thing, you know, actually works.

I had the issue - dead as dead as dead. No power, no ability to do a recovery and followed the suggested routines to start it - nothing worked. Couldn't get to the phase to recover it software-wise. It was virtually fully charged just a couple of hours before, just randomly picked it up and got the black screen. I don't believe this is only a software issue and entails hardware problems as well. I'll see what the next steps are to get it resolved, but the place where I bought it indicated that mine was the 3rd unit returned since they launch. Sorry to see this, as it was a decent phone with snappy response and without the bloatware of other brands.

Anonymous, 05 Jul 2025Yeah, the many reports about explosions of xiaomi redmi note and one plus nord is just coinci... moreHow many cases of explosions across how many generations of Nord/Redmi Note (both of which have been sold tens of millions across the world) are you talking about? Has Sony even managed to sell a quarter of a million units of Xperia 1 VI last year? At least for now, the bootloop issue is specific to Xperia 1 VII, and Sony decided that the issue is so extremely prevalent in its Japanese variant that they decided to cease its sales in their home country, ONE MONTH after its release. Did you seriously think you would be making a good case for Sony by comparing their sales to the other makers? Jeez..

Pretty much all smartphone manufacturers outsource their smartphone production, so Sony's reliance on outsourcing wouldn't be related to this incident in any way.
