Hemedans, 09 Jun 2025What Nintendo data you talked about? Over 80% of Nintendo user prefer Handheld and Only 50% us... moreNintendo shared usage data years ago. Nintendo separated Nintendo Switch users into 3 groups: primary TV mode, primary handheld mode, and hybrid. Most Nintendo Switch users used Nintendo Switch systems as hybrid consoles. The fact that the Nintendo Switch Lite is the worst-selling model supports this information. Most users want hybrid devices, not handheld-only devices. The Nintendo Switch sold 152 million units. 25 million is only about 16%, even though it's the cheapest model.

According to Nintendo, most Nintendo Switch users use Nintendo Switch systems as hybrid consoles. This is supported by the fact that the Nintendo Switch Lite, which is a handheld console, is the worst-selling Nintendo Switch model by a huge margin, even though it's the cheapest model. You can read Nintendo's financial results. The Steam Deck probably sold about 3 million units. It's a handheld PC, but by console standard, it's a massive failure financially. Obviously, Valve will never admit that. Maybe by the time Nintendo releases a Nintendo Switch 8, other companies will start to understand this.

I don't understand who the market demographic for this is. These handheld consoles always have terrible performance relative to their console and PC counterparts and always will simply due to basic physics.

They will always have thermal throttling due to poor cooling, which in itself is because of the limited size and space and because everything is so closely packed together. Even with these constraints, they still cannot even reach their capped maximum because they only have a fixed/limited battery life and maximising their power would make the battery life abysmal, so there always has to be a compromise between power and efficiency.

Don't say "Just plug it in" because that defeats the entire purpose of portability in the first place. Do you really need portability that badly that you are willing to sacrifice so much for it? Just use your phone, which is "free"(because you already have it and aren't paying extra for another additional device) and has games that are already optimised for it and mostly free. Regarding the OS, I don't see how it's huge at all. It's just Windows with some Xbox user interface and probably some services disabled. The performance may increase by a few percent.
