Oppo Samsung Xiaomi vivo Huawei Android Camera comparison

Telephoto camera comparison, low light

Short telephoto - 69-89mm

In the battle of the short telephotos, we're inclined to pronounce the vivo the winner in a close fight with the Oppo. Both have excellent light-gathering capability and capture abundant, clean detail, but the vivo is that extra bit longer, so it's got to win. The Huawei isn't half bad itself, but it's a little softer and it's not too accurate with its white balance. The Xiaomi is no match for the Oppo at 70mm, and, you guessed it, the Galaxy isn't really up to the same standard either.

Night mode doesn't do wonders for the Galaxy output either.

Medium telephoto - 100-135mm

Oppo's zoom superiority continues at medium focal lengths, its 6x 135mm camera excelling over the Huawei and vivo digitally zoomed in shots (for lack of a clearer term) at the same focal length, as well as over the native output of the Galaxy (115mm) and the Xiaomi (100mm). The vivo, and to a slightly lesser extent the Huawei, are reasonably competitive, while the Samsung and the Xiaomi are a bit further behind in quality.

The Galaxy does show tiny hints of improvement in Night mode, but the lower noise and slightly livelier exposure doesn't exactly make it a winner.

Long telephoto - 200-240mm

The Galaxy remains last at the long end of the zoom range, its photos either soft and noisy, or soft and… flat. The Xiaomi is a little bit better, maybe, but just maybe, and certainly not as good as we would have hoped, given its sensor. The Huawei shows signs of some aggressive computational imagination, but given enough light it does capture good textures. The Oppo images have more jaggies than we'd like but even so they're probably our favorite at this zoom level, with the vivo coming in at second place.
