On December 9, the Oregon Supreme Court amended Oregon Rules of Professional Conduct 1.5(c) and 1.15-1(c), both addressing the use of fixed fees by lawyers and licensed paralegals. The changes seek to address frequent client confusion and clarify a licensee's obligations in use of this fee structure (sometimes referred to as �earned on receipt� or �nonrefundable.�) Further detail is here. The Oregon Supreme Court has approved amendments to the Rules of Licensure, addressing: 1) requirements of the New Lawyer Mentoring Program, and 2) MCLE credits for serving as a bar examiner. Both a clean copy of the new RLs, and a redline of the amendments are available. The new rules will be effective May 1, 2025.
