Executives and Leadership write a lot of unstructured data.
I write a lot of original content in text format—lots. When it comes to business operations communications, I let Copilot do a grammar check and ask it for suggestions and if it sees places where clarity could be improved. If it recommends a clarity change—and I agree, I go in and add it. I have a team of people who have done this for me for years. I used to send it to them, and they’d handle it. We write and read a lot at ThinkData Solutions, Inc (ThinkDataSol).
Because we are consultants, we require the team to capture time at the minute level. This means some may think they must stop what they’re doing and log it, which takes a little more time because they must adjust their timers. People who know how to manage their schedules and time know how to build that in where it less disruptive.
Not every teammate has grown to understand the mastery of granular time. So, they might stop on a task at the wrong time—because it was the boss who sent it—instead of remembering that the leadership cares more about effective use of time, not stopping at every demand. (Again, time management is a skill, and it can be learned).
So, I ask myself—why I would send it to them for those things? Because I want their feedback. They know the process. They know what we want to convey from the hundreds of hours they’ve spent with us just in the last few months. I can send it to them in a better state and make space for them to give me true feedback—because they’re not caught up in grammar and lack of clarity.
Copilot and really Generative AI can be a game changer for leaders and executives. Why are they last to really dive in on use? Training.
In attempt to help people learn how to adopt a new way of work. I am posting content via ThinkData's YouTube. Please follow - we hope to give you reasons to want too! Our goal is teaching how we are interweaving these tools throughout our own life and our team by sharing what we are learning with them, and now you.
I write a lot. Let me show you my first use case for you to consider.
Here are the steps that I followed to get the above in shape and to also show you a potential way to begin your steps into this new way of working with information.
I need to have a grammar check and suggestions for clarity. Do not change words or context.”
I think it is important to tell it that I am not asking it for a thought; I am asking it for grammar and clarity.
Even a human editor can accidently mess up context on an edit. Reading is the most important part of this process. Remember it's a copilot not an autopilot. For clarity I marked this up with track changes. This because I wanted to read and make edits.
I do hope that you enjoy this use case. I have more to come via ThinkData's YouTube and LinkedIn. Do me a favor and follow us there - that way they will let me keep making you videos!
Be great out there, and may the data workforce be with you!

9moI've had AI add additional information that was not in my original text because it thinks it should be related or it will embellish the content. Very annoying. I love the phrase you used: "Remember it's a copilot not an autopilot" 😂 Thanks for sharing Robin!

9moI do teach about unstructured data in CompTIA Data+, we deal with it in #data all the time. If you can start to understand that as humans, we generate mostly unstructured data - you will find the use of tools like Microsoft Copilot can support you a lot. #MayTheDataWorkforceBeWithYou
