How does traditional publishing build credibility for writers? Being accepted by a recognised publishing house means a manuscript has passed rigorous editorial and quality standards. This enhances trust among readers and strengthens an author’s professional reputation. Traditional publishing also provides structured marketing, wider distribution, and bookstore presence—key factors that contribute to long-term visibility and authority. This Friday is National Encourage a Young Writer Day, which feels like a good excuse to encourage a young writer. How? Skip the worksheets and prompts. Tell them to write a letter. To a friend. A grandparent. Their dog. Something magical happens when there’s a real recipient. Suddenly it’s not “writing,” it’s sending a message. I saw this with my four-year-old niece, who was suddenly VERY invested in the mail system. Try it this week. Ask a kid to write one letter. You might spark something bigger than you expect. And if you need a few suggestions to get them going, check out my latest Substack. Publishing companies putting out bad books based on the fact the author has a high social media following is a classic example of the publishing industry putting creativity in second place to money. I've worked with so many incredible authors who, given the chance, would thrive in the traditional publishing world. It just seems to be getting harder and harder to get into. #writing #creativewriting

Today serves as a helpful reminder that publishing is about situating your voice in a busy, always changing market, not just finishing a novel. Thousands of writers get closer to publication every day. A few are editing. A few are making pitches. Some are picking up knowledge. Consistency and strategic execution are more important than talent. If you're serious about publishing, consider whether your writing is increasing your visibility. Before you publish, do you know who your audience is? Do you view your work as a product rather than merely a passion? Success in today's publishing environment goes to those that blend storytelling with structure and creativity with clarity. Your strategy will influence whether or not your words are read, but they deserve to be. #Publishing #WritingCommunity #AmWriting #SelfPublishing #ContentStrategy

Abraham Bravo shares two significant obstacles he's encountered on his writing journey. As an author, the most challenging aspect is the publicity and self-promotion – a task many creatives find difficult, preferring to focus on their craft. He also discusses the tendency to stop writing only when absolutely necessary, sometimes sacrificing present moments with family or at events to capture a fleeting idea for a poem. Bravo is actively working on finding a better balance, separating his creative drive from fully enjoying personal experiences. It's a common challenge for writers to navigate the demands of sharing their work while also protecting their personal time and focus. #WritingJourney #AuthorLife #CreativeChallenges #Publicity #BalancingAct
