Under the leadership of Interim CEO Orlando Ashford Sr, this transformation reframes NBMBAA from a single-event organization into a multi-line enterprise—spanning workforce development, advisory services, executive search, entrepreneurship, and a new AI Academy. Our Council’s mandate is clear: ensure that Black professionals are not only fluent in AI, but positioned to lead its ethical development, governance, and deployment across industries. The mission is not symbolic. It’s structural. It’s about building the capacity, partnerships, and insight required for enduring relevance in a world defined by technology and change. "How do we find students who are already experimenting with AI?" While tabling at the Black Entrepreneurship Alliance booth at BFUTR, I heard something shift in that question. Not "we should probably look into AI" anymore. But "we need people who are already there." The urgency was different this time. After sharing my reflections yesterday about those 36 months to adapt, I realized I hadn't mentioned the most energizing part of the summit. While everyone was processing the warnings from the main stage, I kept thinking about how on a campus tour with an employer last week, a York University student showed us a tutoring GPT he was working on. We got a sneak peak of how it works in real time - (it was impressive!) Another built an AI workflow for realtors that actively gets and qualifies leads. They're not waiting for permission to innovate. They're just doing it. At York University's Co-op & Career Centre, we see it daily. Students taking big conference concepts and turning them into Tuesday afternoon solutions. Already prompting. Already building. Already bridging the gap between what is and what's next. The bridge between education and industry has never been more critical. We're not just preparing students for jobs anymore. We're preparing them to redesign entire industries. And honestly? It was a real pleasure teaching for a cohort of the PennCLO Executive Doctorate Program over the past few days on two interconnected topics: “How GenAI Will Transform the Learning Function” and “The Learning Organization in the Digital/AI Age.” Together, we explored how generative AI is reshaping the way we learn, lead, and work — and what it means for the future of our profession. As I head to Brisbane for the #AILeadershipSummit, one story is coming with me; Last week, during a session introducing our "AI in Practice Minor" to students, someone said: “We’re growing up watching robots replace people while we’re still learning — it feels like we’re racing against the machine.” That line has stayed with me. This past week, we held our first general meeting of the semester, welcoming new members, outlining our mission, and setting the stage for an exciting year ahead at the intersection of AI, strategy, and innovation. At Cornell AI Strategy Club, we’re focused on exploring how artificial intelligence can be applied to real-world business, policy, and societal challenges. Our goal is to bridge the gap between technical AI development and strategic decision-making, equipping students to become future leaders in this rapidly evolving space. This semester, we will be: 🧠 Laying the Foundation: Our education team is kicking off the semester with a series of sessions that teach the fundamentals of AI and its real-world applications, giving members a strong base in both technical and strategic perspectives. 📢 Bringing in Industry Voices: We’re looking to host speakers from leading firms like Morgan Stanley, Accenture, Haskell and others, offering students direct insight into how AI is transforming industries from finance to consulting to engineering. 🏎️ Driving Hands-On Experience: Members will join industry-focused project groups, applying AI strategy frameworks to real challenges and developing tangible experience across sectors. 🏔️ Culminating in the AI Strategy Summit: At the end of the year, we’ll showcase our work in a campus-wide summit, featuring collaborations with other AI organizations and presentations from student teams.
