Seamon reposted this#TheLinkedInGuru #GuruGoodNews LinkedIn Tip of the Week: You Could Be Invisible on LinkedIn And, the sad part about it is that you didn't change a thing on your profile. I've said for years now that LinkedIn LOVES to change things. That's good because they are always trying to make the platform better. But, it becomes a problem when LinkedIn changes a database behind the scenes and now the "Market Value Filter" - MVF (your profile data selected from a pull down menu) no longer matches the database. This causes you to NOT be found anymore when a search is done. The most recent change made was related to the degree database used in your Education Section. Here's what you need to do to make sure YOUR degree is correct and you will be discovered and get credit for having your degree: 1) Go to your Education Section on your profile and edit each listing that has a degree listed. 2) Edit the Degree field by completely typing it again and be sure to select one of the degrees that shows in the pull down. This will make sure that you have selected the proper MVF from the updated database. 3) Don't forget to tell LinkedIn if you wish to notify your network of this change and to click the SAVE button to confirm the change. Another place I recommend that you verify that you have the correct MVF is the "Industry" field in your Intro Section. Use the same process as above to update this field. So... what did you find? But she also had a time bomb ticking inside that eventually took her young life. One of her famous sayings was "Leave before it gets ugly." Boy, was she on to something. I don't know about you, but I have sometimes over-stayed my welcome and things got ugly. At work, for example. Sometimes we miss the signs that things are deteriorating. Other times, we can "read the handwriting on the wall," but we are too afraid to quit. And when that Why is aligned with the needs of others that you serve, you have a potent formula for success. Recently, I was listening to a guest speaker talk about helping clients who want to write a book. As a writing coach, she said that she always starts by asking the client several basic questions: ✨ What is the book about? ✨ Who is the book for? ✨ Why must You write this book? Great questions, especially the Why question. It gets to the core, doesn't it? On some level, these companies understand that how one treats others really does matter. Soft skills are really quite hard. They have a bottom line impact. As I pondered what Managers can do to ignite the potential that exists in their employees, over and over, I came back to the idea of engagement. What can You do to become a more engaging leader? All it takes is a spark: ✨ S - Show the way. Share information. Set goals. Support their success. ✨ P - Provide plenty of opportunities for people to participate and play a part. Play to people's strengths. Praise people. ✨ A - Appreciate each person's contributions. Ask for their ideas. Address concerns. Acknowledge each person. ✨ R - Recognize effort and accomplishment. Reinforce learning. Role model the values. ✨ K - Know each person individually, especially their goals and needs. Keep your commitments. Be kind. Yes, there is more to it. Much more. But by lighting the fuse, you can start a positive fire of engagement in your team.

Get to it." - Trevin Wax What is your take on the creative process? Is creative inspiration something you wait for like a weather front? Or is creative inspiration akin to priming a pump where the first few tries produce nothing but then a gusher? For me, creativity is probably all of the above . . . and other as well. When I was in graduate school, studying creative arts education, I read some interesting stuff on imagination and the creative process. One model that I liked I'll call the "Don't Wait; Do Something" approach which basically said that creativity occurs when we are in motion, when we are taking action. Rather than waiting for inspiration, go ahead and start writing, painting, walking or whatever it is that gets your juices flowing. Trust that in the doing, the creative process will kick in. Founders and co-founders active on LinkedIn.” About 10–15 invites a day. All sent manually. That sounds like a strategy. It isn’t. Growing a network without intent doesn’t create value. It creates a list. And a list of strangers won’t turn into conversations, let alone opportunities. This is where it often goes wrong: Focus on volume. More connections. More reach. But no clarity. Before sending an invite, three questions matter: • Who exactly needs to be in your network? • Why them? • What should they understand about you? “Founders active on LinkedIn” is not a niche. It’s a filter without focus. Relevance beats reach. Always. The strongest networks are not the biggest ones. They are the most intentional. Somewhere along the say, we confused leadership with laminated badges, embossed business cards and job titles that sound like they were generated in a brainstorming exercise at a yoga retreat in Costa Rica. Real leadership isn't about being the Chief Synergy Optimization Evangelist at a zipper factory in Omaha, it's being the person who actually knows what's going on when the PowerPoint aristocracy starts speaking in tongues saturated with buzzwords and cliches. It's the person who tells the truth when everyone else is busy polishing narratives and covering their a$$es. It's the person who steps in, not to be seen, but because the work needs to get done. Titles are costumes. Leadership is behavior. The professionals who actually move the needle at their organizations rarely have the fanciest titles. They're too busy solving problems, clearing obstacles and making sure the company doesn't collapse under the weight of its own delusion and mismanagement. Leadership isn't conferred by a diploma, a pedigree or a networking brunch. It's earned in the moments when something breaks, someone steps up and everyone else exhales because the person who actually knows what they're doing just took charge. If you want to see real leadership, don't look at the org chart. Look at who people follow when things get messy. It's rarely the person with the biggest title or who went to a blue blood school. Chances are that they'll be looking to you. Not because you have "THE" title, but because you get the job done. Every time. BELIEVE IN YOURSELF AS MUCH AS I BELIEVE IN YOU! #LINKEDINKEITH

A few minutes ago a client came by--said he could only stay a couple of minutes--and wanted to thank me for writing him the resume last month that landed him the job the next day. Well, he says the resume landed him the job. I think it was his wonderful smile and sparkling personality. He also told me, "I knew I could do the job." So his confidence shined through. Evenings like this are rare these days, and so rewarding.
