So I took a step back and said, "Let’s turn audits from an event… into a habit." Here’s how I prepared my HR team to face audits without the chaos: 🔹 Weekly Micro-Checks: Instead of waiting for audit time, we started doing 30-min “mini audits” every Friday. Less pressure, more consistency. 🔹 Audit Champion: Each HR team member took ownership of one area (e.g., offer letters, compliance, ESI/PF records, etc.). I hear and read a lot about recruiters ghosting, not responding to candidates who qualify but may not be selected for the role… This lack of empathy comes from the HR Leader… As an HR leader I haven’t lost touch with reality, and my expectations are clear! Treat everyone how you would want to be treated. Everyone will always find themselves on the other “side” seeking new opportunities. Respect Respond Reassure candidates they are seen. It’s not that complicated.

One of the few things I truly dislike in business is dishonesty. In leadership, trust is everything. Without it, culture erodes, teams disengage, and performance suffers. There’s a simple way to uncover the truth when something doesn’t feel right ask two questions: 1️⃣ “Can you walk me through exactly what happened?” 2️⃣ “Is there anything you’d like to clarify or correct before we move forward?” Clear, direct questions create space for accountability. Strong leaders don’t assume they verify. Transparency isn’t optional in high performing teams. It’s the standard.

Most corporate training feels like a spa day with slides. Polished decks. Pre-approved jokes. Icebreakers no one wants. It’s designed to entertain, not equip. And that’s the real problem: Corporate training is too easy… so it doesn’t work. A few years ago, I stopped signing up for company training. Not because I thought I knew it all— But because every session left me with nothing new to try and nothing hard to wrestle with. Meanwhile, I was being asked to lead people, solve chaos, and build strategy. Training never prepared me for that. Most employees aren't burning out because they’re weak or lazy. They're burning out because no one trained them for the real weight of the job. They’re duct-taping their way through— Googling answers, copying colleagues, chasing promotions… Fighting fires with foam tools. Then we wonder why performance tanks and mental health collapses. Here’s what I believe: When you master your job: - Work feels lighter - Decisions feel faster - Confidence shows up without being summoned Training should be the gym, not a massage chair. Not “fun enough to stay awake through,” But “tough enough to make you dangerous in your role.” Imagine this... What if we trained people to fight the real battles of the workplace— Not just play at them in breakroom workshops? What if we taught: How to manage egos, not just tasks How to speak truth in rooms built on silence How to lead when no one wants to be led Train hard. Fight easy. I’ve been thinking a lot about leadership lately. One thing I’ve learned is that leadership isn’t about having the title. It’s about how people feel when they work with you. Do they feel supported? Do they feel heard? Do they feel better after a conversation with you? Some of the best leaders I’ve worked with didn’t lead by ego. They led by clarity, accountability, and consistency. And some of the hardest lessons I’ve learned came from seeing what leadership should not look like. Being a leader means going first. It means having hard conversations. It means protecting your team even when it’s uncomfortable. Titles come and go. Character doesn’t.

If a reference is older than 3 years… it’s outdated. Yes, you read that right. People evolve , professionally and personally sometimes in ways you wouldn’t believe! The version of someone from 3+ years ago is not necessarily the version you’re hiring today. Reference checks should be recent, relevant, and real-time, not just a checkbox task but a strategic tool to understand the person as they are today, not as they were.

If the termination meeting is the first honest conversation, the process failed long before that day. One of the hardest parts of HR is sitting in termination meetings where the employee looks genuinely shocked. Not defensive. Not argumentative. Just… surprised. That reaction usually tells a bigger story. Because in healthy organizations: ✔️ Feedback is ongoing, not saved for the end. ✔️Expectations are clear. ✔️Performance conversations happen early and often. ✔️Leaders don’t avoid difficult discussions. Termination should never feel like a plot twist. It should feel like the final step in a process the employee already understood. HR’s role is to guide the process, ensure fairness, and keep it compliant. But we shouldn’t be the first ones delivering the hard truth. That responsibility sits with the leader. When feedback is delayed, softened, or avoided altogether, the outcome is almost always the same: confusion, mistrust, and a difficult exit for everyone involved. Good leadership isn’t about avoiding uncomfortable conversations. It’s about having them early enough to make a difference. I interviewed a candidate some time ago, and I asked him a simple question: “What do you do for fun?” ''What do you do outside of work?'' He froze. You could tell he never expected it. He smiled awkwardly and said, “Ah… I wasn’t ready for that one.” I laughed and told him, “Relax, I’m just trying to know you. Not just your CV.” Sometimes we forget that behind all the skills, certifications, and experience, there’s a human being. This question is how I understand your energy, your personality, and your interests. How you decompress. How you manage stress. How you balance your life. Because if you don’t know how to rest, you’ll burn out fast. And nobody wins. So yes, I’ll keep asking, “What do you do for fun?” because culture-fit goes both ways. I’m not just filling roles; I’m creating good experiences. For real people. I’m an advocate of good candidate experience.
