Sanjay Khatri liked thisSanjay Khatri liked thisIn 1972, a HP-35 handheld scientific calculator cost $395. By 1980, you could buy one for $10. The debate at the time: would calculators make kids unable to do math? What actually happened: the profession of "human computer" — people hired to calculate all day — quietly vanished. But mathematics advanced faster than ever. Every generation has its calculator moment. The point where a cognitive task gets so cheap it stops being a job and starts being a tool. We're in one right now with #AI The question was never whether it would replace thinking. It's always the same: what harder problems do we tackle next? What's your calculator moment? 👇 #FridayDigression #Technology #Innovation #FutureOfWork

Sanjay Khatri liked thisI watched Nepal’s Prime Minister Balendra Shah address the UN General Assembly and for much of the speech, I wanted to shout: Yes. That’s it. Exactly. Well done. It was brave, direct and straight. He spoke plainly about the injustice facing countries like Nepal: communities losing lives, homes and livelihoods to a climate crisis they did little to create, then taking on more debt to recover from the damage. He called for grant based climate finance, stronger Loss and Damage support, and a Himalayan Climate Resilience Mechanism bringing Nepal, India and China together on glacial lakes, early warning, satellite data and disaster response. Now, how can we support the coordination? I felt the end of his speech was grand, I am thinking of this every day: “Too often, military and economic power determines whose voice is heard.” It made me wonder, who was actually listening? Shah was the 106th speaker of this General Debate, in a week packed with bilateral meetings and competing demands. We do not know how many delegates were actually in the chamber, or who among the major powers was there. Nepal has a strong voice, Himalayan communities have been warning about what they are seeing for years and scientists have provided the evidence. Now Nepal’s Prime Minister has put both the warning and concrete proposals before the world. The question is not whether Nepal can speak loudly enough but whether listening moves money, changes decisions and leads to action. Nepal spoke, are the major powers listening? #unga #nepal #adaptation #disasterrisk #lossanddamage #climatechange #glaciers #himalayas #unitednations Pic: [Eduardo Munoz/Reuters]

Sanjay Khatri liked thisWonderful event I was honored to participate in the AI Safety panel at The Autonomous in Vienna and to exchange perspectives with such an outstanding group of experts. Many thanks to my fellow panelists for a stimulating and insightful discussion. AI safety is becoming one of the defining topics of our time as autonomous vehicles move from research programs to visible elements of everyday life in places such as Silicon Valley and Shanghai. While standards such as ISO 26262 continue to provide an essential framework for automotive safety, demonstrating safety in AI-based systems requires new approaches. Too often, we position AI and determinism as opposites. Reality is more nuanced. Through appropriate architectures, controls, and validation methods, AI systems can be designed to behave consistently and predictably in specific operational situations while preserving the benefits of machine learning. The real challenge lies in orchestrating multiple layers of intelligence. From low-level monitoring of network activity, to sensor fusion and perception layers, to the decision-making systems that ultimately determine vehicle behavior, safety must be engineered across the entire stack. This creates a continuous flow of information that must be controlled at the edge while leveraging cloud-based analysis, monitoring, and retraining capabilities to continuously improve system performance. Far from being concerned about the future of AI, I am excited by the pace of innovation and the opportunities it creates. The industry still has significant work ahead to prove, validate, and certify these systems, but the trajectory is promising. Ultimately, I am convinced that autonomous systems, when properly designed and validated, will prove safer and more reliable than distracted human drivers looking at their smartphones instead of the road. Network effects don't just happen—they require an ecosystem built on trust and neutrality. We at Wirepas have shared many examples of our partners in action recently. Now, Teppo explains why this specific approach—governance over just technology—is critical for meeting urgent market demands like those in India. The interesting part of T-Mobile and Jio's 5G Standalone roaming announcement isn't the "world's first." It's what happens when 5G SA capabilities stop ending at the operator's network boundary. For years, we've talked about 5G SA largely as a network architecture. Deploy the 5G Core. Add VoNR. Reduce latency. Introduce slicing and more programmable services. However, many of the most interesting 5G capabilities become far more valuable when they can follow the customer across networks. T-Mobile and Jio have now demonstrated commercially available 5G SA roaming, with Syniverse providing the interconnection between the networks. That starts to make 5G SA portable. The longer-term opportunity isn't simply giving travelers a better data connection. Think enterprise applications, IoT devices, private-network extensions, differentiated service levels, and eventually network slices that can maintain service characteristics across operator boundaries. That's a much harder interoperability problem than building SA inside one network. Yet, solving it could be one of the steps that finally turns 5G SA from network infrastructure into a global service platform. Which 5G SA capability becomes substantially more valuable once it can cross operator boundaries? #5GStandalone #TelecomStrategy #NetworkArchitecture

Most of the talk around #5G has been about speed. But the next wave of connected devices needs something else entirely. What they need is the right kind of 5G — built for scale, battery life, and always-on reliability. That’s where #RedCap comes in — and why we launched it nationwide on T-Mobile's 5G standalone network. Think wearables, sensors, smart meters. The connected tools that power modern business — and don’t need the bandwidth of a smartphone to do their job. RedCap gives them: • 𝗟𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿 𝗽𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿 𝗱𝗿𝗮𝘄 (so devices last longer and cost less to operate) • 𝗦𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗴𝗲𝗿 𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 (even at the edge of the network) • 𝗕𝘂𝗶𝗹𝘁-𝗶𝗻 𝘀𝗲𝗰𝘂𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘆 (because these tools often run critical operations) For businesses, that means it’s finally possible to connect everything else — at scale, without overbuilding. It’s not about more 5G. It’s about smarter 5G — for the devices that keep businesses moving. 🧠 Read more from John Saw: https://lnkd.in/gi739yf7
