Nancy Rew shared thisProud to work for such an incredible organization!Nancy Rew shared thisIt’s finally here —the day to say Yes to trees and spread the word about their seemingly endless benefits. We’re celebrating the many Yeses from partners, members, and supporters like you who helped us plant hundreds of millions of trees, and the many more Yeses it will take to plant even more. We know that there are different ways of saying Yes and we’re excited to see how you express yours. Whether you join a planting event in your area, plant a tree in your yard, make a donation to plant trees in areas where they’re needed most, or something else entirely, know you’re committing to making a meaningful difference in the world. Make sure to tag us in your tree celebration photos. How do you plan to say Yes to #ArborDay?

Nancy Rew shared thisNancy Rew shared thisWhen it comes to celebrating #ArborDay, you better believe we say Yes in a big way. Now it’s your turn. Show us how you say Yes to planting trees and spreading their benefits to everyone. You can grab your gloves and join a planting event in your area or plant a tree in your yard. Or if you’re into keeping your hands clean while making a difference, support our efforts in planting trees where they’re needed most.

Nancy Rew shared thisSo honored to work for this amazing organization! Everyday I get to use my skills and experience to make a difference in this world - what could be better than that?!Nancy Rew shared thisCheers to 50 years! 🎉🌳 We are filled with gratitude as we reflect on the past and embark on the next 50 years as the Arbor Day Foundation. Together, we have made an incredible impact- nearly 500 million trees in over 55 countries to be exact. But the work doesn’t end here, you have a chance to get in on the action and plant a tree this #ArborDay! Alongside our partner Kimberly-Clark , we are working to plant 150,000 trees for the 150th anniversary of the national holiday, Arbor Day. Until 11:59pm tonight, we will plant 1 tree for EACH social media post with the hashtag #ArborDay. That’s right. Your post can absorb 48 pounds of carbon a year, soak up 2,300 gallons of storm water, and release 260 pounds of oxygen. Let's get planting!

Nancy Rew reacted on thisNancy Rew reacted on thisEarlier this month, I had the pleasure of joining partners from across the conservation community at a Ducks Unlimited reception during their annual fly-in on Capitol Hill. The event, co-hosted by Ducks Unlimited and the National Alliance of Forest Owners, brought together conservation leaders, policymakers and partners to celebrate the impact of conservation easements and the progress we’ve made together. Not only was it great to see several colleagues representing my home-state of South Carolina, I was also honored to share remarks about the Forest Conservation Easement Program and the important role conservation easements play in protecting working forests, wildlife habitat and the communities that depend on these landscapes. Our nation’s private forests face threats, largely due to development or conversion to other land uses. That's why we at the Land Trust Alliance are thrilled that the 2026 House Farm Bill (Farm, Food, and National Security Act of 2026) includes the Forest Conservation Easement Program with $240 million in mandatory funding over 5 years. As we celebrate victories for conservation easements, let’s recognize that now, more than ever, we must continue advocating for policies that benefit our treasured forested lands, wildlife and communities.

That's 8.5kg of CO2 saved per square metre. The result isn't just sustainable. It's visually stunning, texturally inviting, and remarkably functional. From furniture to wall panels to pet products. Go chase them and go get them. Because our country loves sports, and it brings us together unlike anything else.” — Mike Tirico, at the conclusion of the Milan‑Cortina ’26 Olympic Games The 2026 Olympic & Paralympic Winter Games have been so inspiring—especially the incredible, record-setting performances from American athletes (Hilary Knight, Oksana Masters, Declan Farmer, Elana Meyers Taylor OLY !!) The strive for greatness and unity behind it are what motivate me every day in my (now!) eight‑plus months at USA Cycling. Since joining the team last summer to lead the USA Cycling Foundation, I’ve had the great privilege of connecting with USA Cycling supporters and fans—on rides, at races, in board rooms, at events, and everywhere in between. The passion, commitment, and belief in what leadership and excellence in sport can do for our nation is truly special. Last year showed just how powerful that community is: 🚴♀️ 40+ National Team athletes received direct grants from the USA Cycling Foundation. 🏅 25 UCI World Championship medals earned by U.S. athletes supported through our programs. 🎻 Our most successful Bicycles & Bluegrass yet—surpassing all previous fundraising results as we celebrated 25 years of the USA Cycling Foundation, with special thanks to our generous and lovely host, Rosewood Sand Hill (Save the date—November 7 & 8, 2026—and join us this year!) With a total of 20 medals earned by USA Cycling athletes at the Pan American Track Championships and Paracycling Pan American Track Championships last month, we’re kicking 2026 off in high gear. From now on, the USA Cycling Foundation’s work accelerates as we prepare for #LA28 to support our athletes and coaches aiming for a once‑in‑a‑generation home Olympic & Paralympic Games. We’re partnering with world‑class leaders and innovators in technology, investment, and sports science—with a special focus on elevating women’s performance—to ensure our athletes have the resources, innovations, and expertise they need to thrive. The collective leadership, generosity, and belief in the power of sport shared by our supporters, partners and ambassadors propel us forward—fueling the environments, opportunities, and breakthrough moments to shape the future of American cycling. Let's take the pressure off. Social media is changing. We're moving away from overly curated feeds and toward content that is honest, raw and real. What people want from brands is clarity and authenticity. That's what builds trust. It doesn't mean you're sloppy. It means you are intentional and ok with being a little vulnerable. At WJC, we learn and evolve our client's voices to ensure they retain their own uniqueness. Whether you do your own social or work with an agency, check in with your voice today. Is it authentic? Is it clear? Do people know what to expect from you post to post? Are you seeing the shift to more "real" content in your feeds, as well?

Nancy Rew liked thisNancy Rew liked thisMy trip to #Ghana has confirmed a core belief—that the secret ingredient to reforestation isn’t trees or money, it’s people. Ghana is a global superpower in this regard, and we are seeing it in our people-powered partnership to restore the hugely significant mangrove forests of Keta Lagoon. The first notable thing is how completely the partner ecosystem comes together in Ghana around landscape-scale forest restoration. This is anchored by our friends at Ghana Forestry Commission, which does an exceptional job of helping to form public-private partnerships and then infusing them with scientific expertise in forest practices, technical assistance to apply those practices, anchoring seed collection and nursery capacity, demonstrating exemplary forest on its own lands, and helping to facilitate financing strategies. That’s why I was thrilled yesterday to join my friend Dr. Hugh C.A. Brown, Chief Executive, to sign a new partnership agreement between the Forestry Commission and Terraformation to advance our mangrove restoration group project together at Keta Lagoon—one of the largest such efforts worldwide. Beyond this ideal national-level anchor partner and a parallel partnership with the University of Ghana, what makes the work at Keta Lagoon special is how it is being driven forward locally through just and equitable collaboration between our partners Regenerative Development of Anlo Wetlands (ReDAW) and Agrointroductions Ghana and the rich tapestry of local communities across this landscape. The complexity of culture and livelihoods in this region cannot be overstated, and our partners are doing a fantastic job aligning with these communities while advancing ecologically rigorous mangrove restoration that is generating new direct employment, support for other livelihoods, and community-driven benefits funding that will touch the whole community. Of equal significance, at Keta Lagoon we are using this whole partner ecosystem—from the Forestry Commission to local partners—to function like a natural ecosystem, weaving ourselves together on new strategies like a regional seed collection network that combines our capacity synergistically to ramp up. None of this works without the real secret ingredient to restoring whole landscapes the right way: love. I have been most struck in Ghana by a spirit of love and service that infuses every relationship, that clearly propels every person and organization we are working with. This has me extremely hopeful for the future of the work at Keta Lagoon but also for restoration of other landscapes across Ghana where this same magical collaboration is in effect or could be.

Inside Alignment: The Internal Comms Newsletter for Nonprofit Leaders Most nonprofits know how to talk to donors. Fewer know how to talk to their own people. Inside Alignment is a monthly email for nonprofit leaders and communications pros who want to lead better from the inside — through clear internal messaging, smarter rhythms, and a team that actually knows what’s going on because comms pros are "managing up" and leaders see comms as a strategic partner. This newsletter launched in June 2025! I send one email a month with case studies and practical tips for any nonprofit or comms leader who need help communicating better with their most important people: their team. ➡️ Sign up here: https://lnkd.in/gYPf_WPt

Nonprofit communicators, never forget how vital your work is to the mission of your organization. It’s not just a well designed report, it’s a storytelling vehicle that may compel a donor to give to the mission. It’s not just an email campaign, it’s a voice that soothes an anxious constituent who cares deeply about your mission. It’s not just a press statement, it’s a conversation started in public to connect with new audience members who may one day support the mission. Your work is a strategic function of your organization. Chin up and keep at it. --- Want help learning how to think like a CCO even if you’re a nonprofit comms team of one? ➡️ Subscribe to 𝘐𝘯𝘴𝘪𝘥𝘦 𝘈𝘭𝘪𝘨𝘯𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘵, my once-a-month newsletter for nonprofit comms pros who want to grow their influence by leading like a CCO: https://lnkd.in/gYPf_WPt

A recent The Chronicle of Philanthropy article offers strategies for engaging donors facing financial pressures—insights that align with WPI's research on economic factors affecting giving. Key recommendations include maintaining engagement through stewardship, shifting to recurring gifts, and adapting messaging to current realities. These relationship-focused approaches reflect our findings that women's philanthropy is resilient but vulnerable during financial stress, as observed during COVID when women who lost earnings were less likely to give. The emphasis on storytelling and community engagement also mirrors our research showing women donors value connection and prefer collaborative giving. For organizations serving women and girls—receiving just 1.9% of total philanthropy—these strategies may be particularly crucial during challenging economic periods. Foundation and nonprofit communicators are facing what amounts to a perfect storm. As philanthropy grapples with myriad threats, most organizations are under-resourced and understaffed — at a time in which many face a barrage of crises without clear roadmaps for how to respond. And all of this is happening as the explosion of AI is creating new communication opportunities and challenges that are difficult to navigate. With the launch of our first-ever Community Foundation Communications Benchmarking Survey, we have fresh data that puts this perfect storm into context — offering lessons that apply not only to community foundations, but organizations throughout the nonprofit and philanthropy world. Here are three timely challenges we discovered in collecting this data: 1. Insufficient Resources Effective communications are central to the success of community foundations, yet most communications teams say they lack the financial resources or people they need. More than 9 in 10 of the more than 100 community foundations surveyed said they need more communications resources to meet their organizational goals. Adding to the challenge: nearly half of those surveyed said they expect their communications budgets to decrease or stay the same over the next two years. 2. A Lack of Guidance on AI Community foundation communications teams have been quick to embrace AI tools for an array of functions, though few have adopted policies to govern its use. 75% of those surveyed said they do not have a formal AI policy for employees — which creates numerous risks for organizations as they attempt to navigate this fast-emerging technology. 3. Crisis Communications Risks Community foundations are increasingly setting up response funds and coordinating community partners in the wake of hurricanes, floods, fires, mass shootings, and other tragedies. Yet many community foundations report they don’t have crisis communications policies for these events, which can affect their ability to respond effectively during fast-moving events. More than 4 in 10 don’t have policies to govern their response to natural disasters and roughly one-half don’t have communications protocols for addressing internal crises. If your organization is dealing with any or all of these issues, the findings from this new survey demonstrate you are not alone. Clearly understanding the challenges you face offers the first step toward finding solutions, advocating for more resources, and developing effective policies and procedures. A new report, Reinventing the Cycle: Adapting Relationship Fundraising for Donors Who Use DAFs, by the DAF Research Collaborative uncovers best practices for donor advised fund (DAF) fundraising as DAFs are growing in popularity among donors. DAFs are charitable giving accounts that donors set up at sponsoring organizations, which then make grants to other charities at the donors’ request. Based on interviews with professional fundraisers, the report offers strategies for identifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding DAF donors. The report also includes a DAF-specific fundraising cycle outlining how the funds change nonprofit organizations’ fundraising management, while also highlighting the challenges and opportunities for nonprofits. “Interviews with the fundraisers made it clear that DAFs affect every stage of the fundraising cycle,” said Genevieve Shaker, PhD, professor of Philanthropic Studies and Donald A. Campbell Chair in Fundraising Leadership at the Indiana University Lilly Family School of Philanthropy. “This illustrates that a tailored approach to the cycle is necessary.” Shaker authored the report along with Brigham Young University researchers Rachel M. Sumsion, MPA, and H. Daniel Heist, PhD, under the auspices of the DAF Research Collaborative. Heist earned his master’s degree in Philanthropic Studies from the IU Lilly Family School of Philanthropy. https://lnkd.in/ga2K2n_p
