"Diversity is being invited to the party; inclusion is being asked to dance." – Verna Myers Today, I had the opportunity to attend The Workplace After 2024: Politics, Technology, and the Future of Work. It was an insightful HR Roundtable facilitated by Bernadette Jones, SHRM-SCP, CEO and hosted by SHRM Northern California. Kudos to Stefany Wilson for organizing such a fantastic event! A key theme that emerged from our discussion: While uncertainty remains around recent Executive Orders and their impact on DEI policies, one thing was clear...organizations must continue to reinforce their commitment to employee well-being. Now more than ever, it’s critical for companies to communicate how their values and goals support their workplace culture and ensure employees feel supported and included. We also explored several key trends shaping the future of work: 🔹 Escalating political tensions—70% of managers are concerned about increasing workplace conflicts post-election. 🔹 The impact of workplace conflict—Managers spend 25-60% of their productive time navigating disputes, while employees lose 2.8 hours per week to workplace conflicts. 🔹 The intersection of politics, technology, and worker preferences—Employers must navigate these complexities while fostering inclusive, high-performing cultures. While there is still much uncertainty surrounding recent Executive Orders and the complexities of navigating their implications within federal and state policies, it was inspiring to hear perspectives from leaders across industries. The focus was not just on challenges but on actionable solutions to support workforces through these transitions. A huge thank you to Bernadette and SHRM NorCal for leading such an important conversation.
