I recently wrote a paper related to this topic and the rise of fraudulent job applicants, especially in tech and finance roles. While AI increases efficiencies within organizations, it also creates more opportunities for candidates to misrepresent themselves in the hiring process. Enhanced security measures are crucial to help recruiters identify and disengage with fraudulent applicants, and to protect companies from enterprise-wide risk. https://lnkd.in/gdpr_4mp

🎧 I recently listened to a great episode of Edtech Insiders featuring Sam Whitaker from Studyfetch, and one topic stuck with me: AI literacy. 📖 Too often, we focus on "implementing AI” without investing in understanding it. In my junior year of college, I built a machine learning engine. Honestly, I don't remember what I taught it to do. I just hope it's not out there destroying the world 😬 On the heels of the U.S. Department of Education’s July 22 guidance confirming that federal grant funds can now be used to integrate AI into education, the focus is shifting from whether AI belongs in the classroom to how we use it responsibly and effectively. 🪄 AI feels like magic, but it's not. It's technology, and we should understand: ✅ What AI actually is Understanding how AI systems are trained, what data they rely on, and how they make decisions. ✅ How to think critically about AI’s outputs Recognizing that AI can be wrong, biased, or misleading. Being able to evaluate its responses, ask better questions, and not take outputs at face value. ✅ The ethical and social implications of AI Considering issues like bias, fairness, data privacy, and the broader societal impact of AI, especially when it comes to education. ✅ Responsible and transparent use of AI Knowing how to use AI tools appropriately, when not to use them, and how to disclose and explain their use in ways that build trust. ✅ How to collaborate with AI Seeing AI as an assistant, not a replacement. Knowing how to leverage it for creativity, problem-solving, and deeper learning And as federal policy opens the door to more AI in classrooms, we have a responsibility to make sure understanding keeps pace with implementation. How should schools and districts prioritize AI literacy now that federal funding is available? What would you invest in first? #AILiteracy #AIinEducation #EdTech #FutureOfLearning #EdTechInsiders #USDeptOfEd #ResponsibleAI

Fresh AI Updates for K-12 Education: January-March 2026 I'm excited to share a living resource that I'll be updating throughout the next few months: the K12 AI Updates January-March 2026 presentation. I'll be continuously adding new slides as AI developments unfold, focusing on updates that either directly impact K-12 education or that education leaders need to monitor for potential future implications. Google's Big Move at BETT While I'm not at BETT this year, Google certainly made their presence felt with some game-changing announcements yesterday (January 21st). Here are a few highlights that caught my attention: 🆓 Gemini in Workspace - Now FREE for Education - Perhaps the biggest news: premium AI features that previously required subscriptions are now available at no cost across Gmail, Docs, Forms, Slides, Sheets, and Vids for all Google Workspace for Education editions (Fundamentals, Standard, and Plus). This dramatically expands free AI access regardless of budget. 📚 Gemini Connects with Google Classroom - Gemini now collaborates directly with Google Classroom, using class context to draft assignments and summarize student progress. This saves hours on assignment creation and provides data-driven insights. 🎓 Free SAT Practice in Gemini - Full-length, no-cost practice SAT tests are now available in Gemini, grounded in Princeton Review content. This democratizes test prep with AI-powered identification of weaknesses and time management tracking. 🤖 Workspace Studio for Education - Create, manage, and share no-code AI agents to automate workflows across Gmail, Drive, Sheets, and third-party apps—now a core service in ALL Google Workspace for Education editions. And more👇 Check back regularly, or bookmark the link in the comments

Beyond the certs arms race: Why more is not always better. In today’s job market, stacking certifications feels like the default “hack” to stand out. Take Alden, a poly grad who spent $4,500 and 600+ hours online to earn six cybersecurity certs. Ambitious? Absolutely. Smart? Up to a point. Here’s the reality check: 🔹 Fresh grads with multiple certs no longer automatically turn heads. When everyone stacks, the signal dilutes. 🔹 Recruiters don’t want a CV that’s a shopping list of badges. They want relevant, strategic credentials plus proven application - internships, projects, portfolios. 🔹 Data from the 2025 graduate employment survey shows full-time job placement under 80% for fresh grads. Certs alone don’t fix economic uncertainty or hiring caution. 🔹 Coding certificates? Great. But can you solve problems, communicate clearly, and work in a team? Those skills aren’t on any cert but decide whether you get hired. Stacking certs isn’t the enemy. Stacking without strategy is. My advice to students and job seekers: ✅ Be selective. Choose certs that directly support your career goals. ✅ Pair learning with doing. Build projects. Take internships. Show impact. ✅ Don’t chase FOMO on LinkedIn. Focus on building real capability. In the skills race, quality beats quantity every time. Want to climb ahead? Stop collecting badges like trophies. Start building competence that moves the needle.

Last week, I had the honor of presenting “Equitable AI: Strategies for Educators to Mitigate Bias in Artificial Intelligence” at the National Conference on Race & Ethnicity (NCORE) with my amazing colleagues Kristin Copeland and Geoff Cain from the Teaching & Learning Center at Clover Park Technical College. Our session invited educators into a thoughtful and hands-on conversation about how AI can unintentionally reinforce systemic bias, and how we, as educators, can take action to address it. We explored: 🧩 How bias can arise from data, design, and oversight 🧠 Real-world examples, including facial recognition and grading bots 🛠️ Strategies like lateral reading and prompt engineering 🌍 Inclusive AI practices such as using diverse datasets and meta-prompting 🏫 Practical ways to embed AI literacy and equity into curriculum 🧾 Institutional policy models for the ethical use of AI in the classroom One of the key takeaways: AI does not have to be neutral to be useful. It has to be accountable. 📚 Want to explore more? You can access the recording, slides, meta-prompts, and Mentimeter results from our NCORE session on our TLC LibGuide. You will also find all of our other presentations and resources on AI in teaching and learning there: 👉 https://lnkd.in/gWmNkqQV ✅ Let’s keep the conversation going. If you’re working at the intersection of AI, equity, and education, I’d love to connect, collaborate, and learn from your experiences. Drop a comment or send a message on how you mitigate bias in AI! #NCORE2025 #AIandEquity #InclusiveEducation #BiasInAI #GenerativeAI #CPTC #TeachingWithAI #ProfessionalResponsibility #InstructionalDesign #EdTech #HigherEdInnovation
