Send messages to connections on LinkedIn Messaging

You can send a message to your connections from LinkedIn Messaging page, conversation window, connections page, or their profile. Messages appear in their inbox and may also be sent to their email, based on their notification settings.

If you’re messaging a connection for the first time, you’ll see the Write with AI option to help you draft your message.

To message your connections from the messaging page or conversation windows:

  1. Click the  Messaging icon at the top of your LinkedIn homepage.

    • You can also click on the messaging conversation window at the lower-right corner of your LinkedIn homepage.
  2. Click the Compose icon.

  3. Type the name(s) of your recipient(s) in the Type a name field and click on their name. 

  4. Type your message in the Write a message box.

  5. Click Send.

To send a message to a connection from your Connections page:

  1. Click the  My Network icon at the top of your LinkedIn homepage.

  2. Under Manage my network on the left pane, click  Connections.

  3. Find the member you want to message and click Message next to their name.

    • You can also search for a connection by typing their name in the  Search by name field at the top and refine your search by selecting Search with filters.
  4. Type your message in the Write a message box.

  5. Click Send.

To send messages from a connection's profile page:

  1. Go to your connection's profile page.
  2. Click Message.

  3. Type your message in the Write a message box.

  4. Click Send.

Important to know

You can only message your connections and send message requests to fellow group members and coworkers. If you aren't connected, you always have the option to send an InMail message.
